Their post count reflects their posts on all forums here, including some that we don't have privileges for. In other words, their post count is legitimate.

Listen guys, it's safe to take off the tinfoil hats really. No-one is out to screw you.

But you are absolutely correct, just like with your email, and practically anything else you do online, unless it's encrypted the whole time, including in memory there are ways to get access to it. Furthermore it's routine for things to be stored, backed up, archived, etc, PMs included (in database backups for example). They are not encrypted in VB. So just like you shouldn't say anything online you don't mean, or put sensitive info in an email, I wouldn't put anything sensitive in a PM either.

None of us admins or moderators have access to the DB - via the commandline, phpMyAdmin or any other way, but obviously somewhere/someone up the chain has access to the DB so they could read them (trivially) if desired.

That said, let me remind you that both Chris and I have had direct access to the database for 6+ years (I don't recall when I a started hosting the site, or how long Chris had access) but give or take that long at least. I'd ask you to guess how many PM's we have read, but I'm sure you'd have some smart ass answer so I won't. The answer is zero. First I have no interest or desire, and second, who the fuck would do that? And you realize I'm from another country too. Scary stuff I know!

Yet you slept fine the whole time....

So have some faith. Keep the tin foil hats on if it makes you feel better (but it's not necessary), practice common sense like you should at any other forum you are on, and you'll be fine.

unless i'm missing something Janet has made less than 10 posts on the forum, but her post count is 185. Is that done to make her appear more established on the site? Maybe i'm missing something though...

Can I just ignore the entire "Site Team"?
Sigh.. there is no conspiracy here but instead a forum area for dealing with administrative stuff and for the site team to hash over assorted issues. I suppose my posts in that area have contributed to the 140 +

If I wanted a more 'established presence' I would have picked a more inflated post count and older join date. Heck, I would have even photoshopped a pic of a nicely redone D90 for my profile info. Instead I have marbles, a used Touareg that needs new tires and an increasing appreciation for how new D-90 members must feel.

I should clarify, up to the point the site got moved - we no longer have access.

Charles, let me assure you I am not trying to stir shit up. While I do disagree with a lot of what's happened the past couple weeks (take your goddamn hands off and let it cool down) it is not my intention to start trouble

I just believe very strongly in straightforward answers. A straightforward answer was not provided by the forum administration, where it should have come from. Chris called it out, I agreed.

Especially when it comes to data security on the internet.

Janet, it is my understanding that you were the second gunman on the grassy knoll in the Zapruder film, is that correct ?

No.

I have an excellent alibi but unfortunately Elvis is dead now and unable to corroborate

So Janet, did you get a Land Rover yet? Ha ha, no really, I'm just kidding.
You and Andy bought the site to hopefully make money.
Please don't insult us by pretending to be an enthusiast.

Kidding? Really? Kidding = fun. This comment seems intentionally snarky, rather than kidding.

Lighten up dude. I actually do think D90 (and 110's) are cool - just not sure about some of their owners just now.

Jesus, you guys really need to cut it out. You come into a forum that has been running for a very very long time and claim to not be sure.

What he said.

People...unless you are encrypting things...EVERYTHING you do on the internet is readable by the admins of the services you use (and probably some government officials if you are paranoid.)

Every time you send an email a copy is on BOTH the sending and receiving server...and often many places in-between.

Privacy is an illusion.

Look, if you owned a vehicle where EVERY SINGLE ONE MADE WILL CATCH FIRE sooner or later, you might be a bit paranoid. Setting aside the other common issues and costs etc.

A bit like the tin foil hat comments coming from "the team".

And I could have sworn your post had the same type of hat mentioned in it too, but it may have just been the conspiracy comment.

So that's a no.
You and Andy should just come out and say, "We bought the site to hopefully make money, not because we have any interest in whatever these thingies are that are on this site.".
I really don't care that neither of you own a Land Rover, what I care about is the pretended interest in them. Just come out and say you bought this site and others, to make money, not because we really care about thier content. Please don't go out and pay 35k for a 6k vehicle that you will be disappointed in because it doesn't have enough cup holders let alone leaks in a heavy dew and spews oil in your driveway like BP, you'll loose all your profits.
You guys should have said, "We're the new owners, we set up some sycophants to moderate, enjoy those ugly boxes you drive."
P.S. This is fun!

Hey Roverhound...how is YOUR search going? This is d-90.com not d2.com

Stop being such a dick...I find it funny that 20% of YOUR posts are in two thread bitching about moderation on a site that is about a vehicle you don't own.

4 of the admins here don't have Defenders. Wonder how their search is going?
Lot's of non 90 owners here. I'm not looking for one. I'm not elite enough.
I could care less about the moderation.
At least I'm not pretending interest in something I could give a rat's ass about.
20%. How did you derive that number?
