Doesn't CO still use a single roller dyno? Seems pretty obvious to a technician to not put an AWD drive truck on a single roller dyno.. I'd let 'em try it and video it.

We have annual diesel emissions testing here in El Paso county but they can't do full-time 4wd vehicles on the dyno's here. The last two years they had a guy come down from Denver to do a visual snap acceleration opacity test on my truck. Basically he floors the accelerator three times and ensures the smoke subsides by the time the engine returns to idle. Total waste of time.

GO Dodge on Arapahoe Rd. is the only facility in Denver metro that can perform a diesel emissions test on an AWD vehicle. They charge $100 for the test.

Or you can pull your front drive shaft, lock the center diff and get it tested anywhere you want. That's what I do.

If you have a diesel 90 you can do the snap test @ 6th and I-25

No need to remove the drive shaft in that case.

Isn't that limited to NAS Defenders?

I don't really dig doing the annual R&R on my front driveshaft.

So out of curiosity I asked the MVD why 90s are exempt but not 110s. Here's their response:

"The reason the 90's get the two speed idle test rather than the dyne is because they are too short. Your 110 will fit. That's why it does not get the alternative test."

Seems weird to me you guys in CO have to do these tests. I live in NYC which is one of the most stringent, tree hugging environments for cars and diesels have basically free reign here. No emissions testing at all last I checked. Some guys I know that bought the new F250 diesels.. drove it home from the dealer and went straight to work on ripping out the urea injection system.

I guess I'm back to pulling the front driveshaft. Oh well, I guess that's one of the advantages to owning a 90 rather than a 110.

Slightly OT- Guy that drives a Tdi VW Golf parks in the same lot that I do here at work. He has some kind of hot turbo under the hood and the thing sounds like a UFO taking off when he pulls out of the lot. Smokes a bit more than any stock VW setup and he can light up the tires no problem. Pretty neat ride. His license plate says F PRIUS.

Nice. I've got the stock setup in my Jetta and can easily peel out. And yeah the damn cooling fan is loud.

I'd send. FOI request to that agency to find out who reported you.
