Depends on what angle you're coming from on this.

Performance for the XJRs was awesome from the 390 hp x308 bodies of the 90s and early 2000s.
Styling (interior especially), I'm not so fond of anymore.
Maintenance - no idea anymore
"Wow" factor: I'd say the R badge actually meant something to people back in the 90s, but as the brand has deteriorated, so has the "wow" factor for the R badge.

Overall:
Not really my cup of tea. I had a Jag XJ6 in the 90s, loved it, and would only go older, not younger. I think Top Gear did a segment on the XJR this year, but I could be mistaken. You're looking at X350 and X358 bodies?

I'd go AMG E class before XJR.

E55 469hp would cost almost double what this thing has for an asking price.

Ron,

I had one 2004 XJR drove it for 6 months, dumped it at the auction 2 months ago or so

Was Black and had Nav ( not all of them do come with the NAV , 48,000 mi

It was no E55 but not much to envy, it handles more like an S55 ( heavy ass on turns )

Sold it at auction for 18,000

What are you buying and what are you spending ? I mean if you want one from Manheim, you got it,

04 fully loaded (nav, heated front and rear seats and all the other stupid crap), 48k miles silver over black, garaged, old dude owns it, new tires, will cost me about what yours went for at auction, maybe a g or two less if I can bargain him down.

Did you have any issues with yours? It has air suspension which scares me (all 04+ XJRs do).

I appreciate the auction offer, but with something like this I would want to see it and meet the owner.

HAHA. Mine had the air suspension, which eventually went bad...most annoying thing ever. The rear would pump and deflate when I stopped at a light. I hated it, but it earned some street cred with the guys driving hydraulic El Caminos.

Yeap, same package.

I had no issues, and it was a one owner car before me getting it, with 35k on it.
Was always serviced at the dealer and based on history of the car, had no major issues ( other that going twice for brake sensor - wire was peeled ) and for a steering problem )

Last exotic at Manheim, they were doing around 16 to 17, so if you get it at that level on the street is a great deal.

They are the same air components as on the Aston, so they are not too bad , but for piece of mind, take it to Jag for a pre-purchase inspection ( I think is $ 150.00 ) and if the owner takes it to his dealership might be free

He takes it to my old employers so I that would be easy enough to get him to sign off on releasing the records and call one of the techs.

You owe it to yourself to at least put the motor back in the lotus before buying another car...

My XJR was pretty good, just a few niggles. The cupholder broke twice, control arm was bad, turn signal stalk failure and the MAF sensor and throttle body needed cleaning frequently. Kind of boring and not much too look at. Strange but the older women really liked it! Interior was kind of cheap and Ford-like. Lots of other cars in that class. Like the E55 wayyyy better and probably better built and easier to service. Saw an 2003 XKR convertible sell for $10,500 at a local dealer!! so these cars have never ending depreciation!
