Anyone have a DeLorean?

Anyone here have a DeLorean DMC-12?
I always thought it was a cool car. Just wondering if anyone here has any experience with them. Seems like lots of issues but nothing us Rover people wouldn't be used to.

I know one for sale here in Portland -- He owns a D110 with a 2.8Tdi, and a nice looking DMC that he just told me he was going to sell.

Neat car. There were 30 of them that showed up a British Car Day near Toronto two years ago.

A co-worker at Rovers North pulled his dad's out of storage one summer in ~ 1996. 6,000 or so one-owner miles. Lots of musty odor; little air ventilation through the driver's "window." My memory was lack-luster performance and, if you let your mind focus on it too much, anxiety-inducing doors that created a sense of claustrophobia. Again, that damned little window...

User tgraham here is a glutton for punishment and has a website dedicated to his loves, including a NAS D90 a Delorean, and an 80's XJ6.

Some great posts on his site:

I've done quite a bit of work on them...and correct about the lackluster performance.. Older volvo v6 engine with k-jet fuel injection from memory.. And yes, those "windows" sucked... I think there is a guy in either Texas or north Florida that is all he does.. A guy named Dave here in ft lauderdale owner the jag shop, he had 3 of them laying around (he was related to the delorean family somehow) he recently closed shop and I'm not sure what happened to the cars..

There used to be a place in Naples Florida a few years back. The last time I went buy there was about 20 to 30 of them in the parking lot.

There are some guys on the Lotustalk forum who have them. They often do performance mods to try to squeeze more zip out of the engine. But nothing much really seems to help. Maybe add cocaine to the gas tank?

Thanks for all the info guys!
Never really thought about the tiny window, that would be hard to even get your hand out.
I saw one at the car museum outside of Chicago that was all kitted up like a back to the future car decades ago. That's was pretty cool.

Took a pic of this one in DC a couple of years ago. A friend of mine, riding shotgun (we are in our 40's) asked me what it was

This is how to add some get up and go, would this be called a resto-mod? With that engine you wouldn't need a flux-Capacitor

If you want to fuel it with Mr Fusion you will still need the flux capacitor. LS motors run horrible on old banana peels.

I have one (I'm the guy with the 110 and the DMC 12). It is a really fun car, I've had it for 15 years. It's not fast, but handles really well (DMCs were partially engineered by Lotus and you can definitely tell). It was my daily driver for awhile but I'm selling it as I just don't drive it as much as I used to and am trying to downsize the toybox. Happy to answer any questions you have.
