Anyone familiar with BMW Z4's?

I just sold my 1988 911 and already I am missing having a little convertable. The prices of these things seem surprisingly low and I was just wondering if anyone has any experience or info on these? I like the looks of the 2003 - 2005. Thanks!

Hi, Wade-

I had a Z3-style M roadster back in 2004-2005 and now have a 2007 M Roadster (Z4-style). Both have been great and problem-free. If you're looking for a roadster, they're not a bad choice, and are among the least "girly looking" of the two-seater convertibles available, for what that's worth. (Especially the M cars.)

I'm actually considering selling my 2007 in the next two months or so before I transfer for a slightly larger convertible (M3) to enjoy the topless thing and do some traveling with family, too when the Ds are absolutely not right for the gig. I'll be sure to post info on it or send you a note when I get to convincing myself its the right thing to do.

Had a 05 M3 convertible for a couple of years and it was a great car, the dealer ship gave me a loaner Z4, not a bad car at all. Obviously styling of the exterior and interior is a personal thing but the dynamics felt solid. it did have a really long hood and felt like I was sitting on the rear axle. I'm 6" and had plenty of room as well, all in all a concur table cruiser.

Wife and I had a 2000 M roadster previous body style and that thing was quick with the s52 motor 240HP. I wanted to get a 2001-2002 as they have the s54 motor turning out 315 HP but we could not afford the price difference. IMHO I would go with a the Z3 body style rather than the Z4 and get a 2002 M Roadster.

I raced against one ( a non-M convertible) once at Brainerd International Raceway. It was pretty fast and went around the corners quickly.

It's decently roomy on the inside. Larger than a miata or Z3, and definitely more modern looking controls.

The rest of it is basically useless as far as storage is concerned. You might be able to carry some groceries or something in the trunk, but that's about it.

I have a 2004 Z4. We looked at the Z3 but they are pretty spartan inside compared to the Z4. We have the larger 3.0L and the automatic top is nice. There is limited interior storage so everything goes in the trunk. When my wife and I used to commute we had to put our laptop bags in the trunk. But it is a fun car to drive and with the sport mode button, pretty fast.
