Anyone driving up from DC to NJ or NYC tomorrow?

Our flight was cancelled for tomorrow. We're able to get up to DC, but the flights out of there are cancelled. We have train tickets from there to NYC now, but that may get cancelled as well. Just trying to think ahead. I don't have work on Fri, but the gf does.

Ugh looks like an expensive cab from Dulles to Union Station, too. This is turning into a mess.

Get Caitlyn to take a day off ... Take her shopping for an engagement ring. That will take her mind off the travel nightmare.

Thought the metro runs out to dulles these days? Stupid question, why not just rent a car from the airport and drive up to nyc or to union station?

We're supposed to land at 4:15pm on a united flight from Savannah.

We were talking about renting a car, but driving some POS 2 wheel car I've never driven before through a large snow storm didn't sound ideal.

I am out of the area by that time, otherwise I would have pick you up

The bad part of the storm will not be here until late evening.

You can rent an all wheel drive.

If you make it to my house there is a DII you can take to NYC and bring it back on Sunday

If you can make it up to me you are welcome to crash at my place. Half way between DC and NY and there is a amtrak from Ardmore to NY a mile from my house for when the trains run again.

Who needs Ted Cruz to bring DC to a halt? All they have to do is forecast snow.

Thanks guys. We're in the taxi now from Dulles to Union Station to catch a train. I should have taken a photo of all of the delayed and cancelled flights on the screen. It was insane. This taxi ride is going to be expensive. I think it's about $20 every 5 minutes so far and we're still 40 minutes away.

From experience, the taxi ride in a cheap cab from IAD to DCA is $65.00. Union Station is a bit further, so I'm estimating an $80 bill.

good luck! Sorry you are having issues.

Josh, if for any reason you need help while here in the DC area please don't hesitate to call. My daughter is in NYC trying to get back here actually. DC can be a nightmare when snow is remotely falling. I hope the trip to Union Station in a Washington Flyer goes smoothly.

It should be $65. If traffic looks like a total nightmare inside the beltway on 66 and in the District (via google maps), okay to peal off 66 at one of the several Metro stations. East Falls Church or Ballston stations are easy to access and you are within 20 minutes of Union Station. Board one of the cars near the front. Changing trains at Metro Center you will exit at the right escalator and be ahead of the masses. Look for the Red Line to Glenmont. Then it is three more stops to Union Station.
The cab will still probably be faster, but at least you know it does not have the potential to be total chaos.

I'll see your DC craziness, and raise you my recent experience (this afternoon) traveling 4/10ths of a mile in NY from home to go get gas and back:
- saw a cop car literally *almost* go off the road in front of me while I was going down a big hill on a side road.
- coming back up the same hill referenced above, I DID see a UPS truck go off the road and then a pickup plow truck lock 'em up behind the UPS truck and do a 180 heading straight for me.

Needless to say I got my arse back home ASAP. Luckily the dude driving the plow knew what the hell he was doing and righted himself with some impressive behind-the-wheel skills.

Damn Lav I thought the NE were better drivers. I know my NE friends and family all think so. . I might still bet Josh is in for an interesting ride. $10 says he's sitting behind or to the right of a dude wearing a turban with little to no black ice experience. Josh snap chat us if I'm right.
