Anyone been to Thailand?

I figured alot of people with Defenders like to travel, so maybe this is a good place to ask.

I'm getting married in Oct, and haven't really planned much of anything so far (which I'm fine with), but I am tasked with figuring the honeymoon thing out.

We're thinking thailand would be cool, for 2 weeks.

So far our idea is Chang Mai area, (north), Bangkok (middle), then to finish the week off on a beach.

Bangkok is easy to plan, and Chang Mai I'm making way with. But when it comes to beaches there are so many to chose from! Any reccomendations?

I want something thats not a tourist trap and over run, but still has a nice place to stay (doesn't have to be a 5 star), stuff to do (hiking, watersports, resturaunts etc). I dont care about big party scenes. i'd rather sip some cocktails at sunset then go to an all night rave. And if its close to an airport that would be a big help too.

any ideas?

Been there a few times, to Bangkok, Utapao, and Pattaya. Beautiful country, cheap, and a great place to party and relax for cheap. For safety reasons, check the State Department website for travel advisories, and stay away from the southern part of the country.

Going to thailand after you get married is like buying a fire extinguisher after your D90 burns down.

Haha - tu che but based on other comments of cup-checking I think I'll have made the right choice.

I've been to Bangkok, udon Thani, korat, and pattaya. Cup check for sure in pattaya, and damn can they play connect 4!
Definitely beautiful country- and if you get adventurous you can try the double engined go karts.... Scary fast!

I have been to Bangkok, Phuket & Koh Samui which is a beautiful island. Phuket is a beautiful beach area on the lower western coast. The country is relatively cheap and a dollar goes a long way. You can fly into Bangkok and take Bangkok Airways to other areas of the country...Koh Samui is about an hour flight and Phuket is about an hour and half from BKK.

X2 on Koh Samui, we holiday there semi-regularly, is a big enough island that you can get to a quiet area that is not heaving with touristas. But the best beach, Chaweng, is pretty busy, but the island still rocks.

For a more secluded, less developed beach scene, try the Perhentian islands off east coast of northern Malaysia. Also beautiful. Good diving.

Cheers and congrats!

I did Bangkok, Chaing Mai , Phuket and Kho Smui with the wife. Could do without Bangkok and Phuket. But they all have ups and downs. We by chance were in Chiang Mai for their Sonkean festival (water festival). Absolutely, and unequivocal fantastic time!!!

Loved the food. I think we say we ate our way around the country!

Jealous I am.
