The Sistem 51 is definitely a cool piece. I've got one and I really like it. Can't really complain about the quality. It's an automatic watch for under $200.

If you had ~$3-$4k to spend on a watch, what would you get? Not a Rolex or TAG guy, mostly Omega. What else kick-ass is out there?

I have picked up some vintage and press owned Jaeger LeCoultres for around that. Most people just think of JLC for Reversos but have some other great models. Have you looked at Analog Shift or Crown and Caliber? They have some good inventory lately.

You can't get a panerai for that price unfortunately, but you can get a reference 3573.50 Omega Speedmaster. Beautiful watches.

Tudor or Bell & Ross? Suunto's Essential are cool. Not that pricey though I think.

Killer panerai watch, only $35k: Mare Nostrum Titanio - 52mm PAM00603 - Collection Mare Nostrum - Officine Panerai Watches

------ Follow up post added October 29th, 2015 07:04 AM ------

Thinking I like something more "tactical" like this Breitling: Breitling Chronospace Military - Swiss military watch

Not a fan of fabric straps though...

Looking at the Sinn watch now.

And the Tudor Black ( or the Pelagos suggested in another post ) are the closest thing to a Sub / Sea Dweller for those that cant afford the " R "

J,

Nothing screams more TACTICAL than the Breitling Avenger but I think they are like $ 6k +

Although they do have tons of models in the 1k to 3k that might duit your Tacticool Look

Bloomberg has a section called "Pursuits" that has a watch subsection.

Great place to look at some names you might have not known of or thought of.

How about a vintage Rolex - 1954 Turn-o-Graph - predecessor to the Submariner

It was my grandfather's watch - and my father's - and its been mine since the 1970's

radium dial - certified chronometer - I just had it completely gone through without disturbing the external patina of three generations of my family enjoying it. I'll pass it down to my nephew with instructions that it go to his son Bruce eventually.
