I agree with you on the Patek.

I'm a fan of the IWC fleiger Chrono.

If you are buying a Rolex I would only go vintage

I have three gmts so if you have questions on what is desirable let me know. 3500 is doable for a gmt not for a vintage sub

Keith,

3k-3500 is tough on them for something in a condition you would actually be happy with. 4k-4500 is about right. You could get an explorer for your budget. rolexforums and timezone are your best bets, but be careful of scammers. To answer the questions I missed above, the 1970 is the normal non-newman dial and my new daytona is the panda dial in two-tone.

Ron

I like the timezone forums.

Everyone has a Rolex. The Sub is a lot like a Rover 90% of the people that have one have never been beyond the deep end of the country club pool.

Maybe a vintage STAINLESS STEEL Explorer I or II or Daytona, very seldom do I these.

Nice Ron. I just picked up my first real watch not long ago - GMT II with Coke bezel. It's much more ubiquitous, but I have lusted after it since I was in high school.

3500 is very doable for a gmt. No box or papers but all original from a reputable seller. I love them but there is always a glut of them.

Ceramic gmts are nice too but they typically trade for over 5k used. I just sold one and most wholesales will give 5200 for them. Sold it on eBay for 5900

Sorry Barry, I must have missed the question.

I inherited the 1970ish daytona. It appears to have never been worn and it is all original with the receipt and everything. When I found out what it was worth, I decided to never wear it (it is somewhere very safe) and sought out my own daytona and I bought the panda dial I linked above. I am at work so I can't post the pic of the new panda from rolexforums, but anyone here is free to steal it and post in this thread. I either wear my speedmaster 8 hands (day, date, month, chrono, 24 hour) or my new panda daytona.

Keith, you should join. It is not hard. David. I do like the GMTs, I am partial to root beer over coke or pepsi though.
