The Jeep is not a bad choice, but he has the wrong tires and not enough power. I've no idea what is street legal in Alaska. You might as well run a well lifted, stripped down full sized rig with a lot of engine.

Regardless it is boring as hell. Mud is for people that don't like off roading or don't know anything. There must be better places to go with some technical trails up there.

Just a bunch of non technical hillbilly wheelers up here . And the trails they could get permitting for the show is what you see . Most of the trails have a technical section in them but also have mud . So you guys down there go off-roading tip toeing over the mud so you don't get your loafers dirty :-) . I'm wondering is rock technical wheeling ? We cross more water here than anywhere else I'm sure . But we don't consider this technical it's just the way to get to the other side . ID:	110226 Also a big full size truck wouldn't have been able to make it down some of the trails . Weight height and width . My D90 is setup for Alaska , light weight big fast winch warmed over 4.6 on 37s . It eats that stuff up .

If the guys in the Jeep could actually pick a line, they would run away from the rest of the pack. 5 minutes of looking at a mud hole rather than just blasting into it and getting stuck for 2 hours would be the better strategy.

Off course there is a lot of mud and muskeg here. I prefer steep trails that require some thought and driving skill. Deep water is common as well, although the government does not like it. I prefer to leave the muddy trails for winter runs once the ground is frozen.

There are guys that like mud, but they all run 48s and bigger with enough power to clean the treads. Mostly it is moving to private land though as digging up the trails gets them closed.

I've done expedition trips with half the day spent winching through the bottomless mud. Not what I try to find for an enjoyable day out and also not what the land managers want to see.

Other than the first epsiode, they have not shown any trails that are space limited.

Unimog? Pinzgauer? Something on Portals? I don't care much for the mud either, so..

I had a lot of hope for this show. I was actually excited to watch it. At first I thought it was the drivers making it bad, but I realize it's all the editing and directing.

Yes the trucks could be better prepped, if these people wheel a lot the trucks should have been ready to go already.
I was hoping it would have been more real like the Lucky8 Easter trips.

Glad Jason made it back, I'll keep watching just because.

As much as this show may not be what each individual whiner here or on (butt)Pirate (arr) wants it to be in order to satisfy their own aesthetic, and as goofy as the participants are made to seem either by their actions or the editing, it's still better than 99.9% of the crap that usually comes on the television. So quitcherbellyachin and don't watch it if a little mud-boggin, outta-shape, emo tweaker personality drama is too much for you to handle for an hour a week.

I can already tell that the mullet guy in the Toyota and his partner driver with the big boggers are going to win the prize.

Your right, I tried watching it and you have to take it for what it's worth…not taking anything away from those who participated but it comes off as sad example of reality TV and shows the off road community as:

A whiney bunch of ill prepared rednecks, arrogant A-holes, meth heads and clueless morons bashing their way thru the Alaskan outback

That comment comes from a couple of friends who could careless about off road anything

Hope ya fun...

Haven't been following the thread much, but I've been watching every week w/ the girlfriend.

I have to say I'm really enjoying it. Probably because I didn't listen to the whining in this thread much! As far as history channel shows go, it's as entertaining as it needs it to be. And, frankly, as reality shows go, it's pretty relaxed on the drama. Probably because the producers couldn't keep up with you guys on the trail.

As someone with some experience in the industry, I agree it's definitely a little choppy as far as the cutting is concerned. But after hearing Jason say how they shot it, it's completely understandable and, frankly, they did a good job putting this together all things considered. If they do another one, you can bet it'll feel even more fake because everyone will have to stop, wait for cameras to setup, producers to get in place, etc. All to shut the editors up in post prod.

Anyway. I'm thoroughly enjoying it and have been looking forward to it every week. Also glad you're back, Jason. Even if you were disqualified fair and square . I love the shot after your little hissy fit of everyone checking out the series. It looks like a great little truck! Almost identical to my dad's actually. Although his is a '71.

They were checking out the series? I hadn't noticed. The other teams (SuperJeep) saw Jason could drive...bet they wouldn't have let him back in the race even if he showed up on a lawn tractor.

I honestly think one of the main problems with the show is the photography. It's not epic. It could be epic. They really could do so much more than spend 80% of the time on the mud holes. They are going something like 40 miles per leg, there has got to be some better "story" about overlanding than just the mud holes.

The Rover is the only reason I'm watching. I like the crew, the truck is not kitted out to oblivion, and they drive the way I would... if I had the money. Although I do enjoy seeing the ...Jeep?... dive into the worst lines possible every single time.
