advise please

I think I can pick up a 97 disco tommorow for $1,250. I would be using it for a spare car only. My wife thinks I should get rid of the little pickup (current spare car which is for sale nissan 4x4 $2900) so that we have two cars that are car seat friendly (little one on the way).

Anyways, Paint is good, tranny good, everything electrical is in order, body straight except for one dent and two small rust spots. Ok, now to the problem.....knock.....I haven't looked very far into it, but it probably needs heads. It has 122k on it and is the loaded model. Green with tan

Whats your thoughts please? How much for parts. I can do the work. Is this a good deal?

Seems like even if you spent another $2000 you would still be ahead as far as having a good family oriented vehicle for a good price. I sold my Disco to buy this Defender and the Disco was always a great ride.

tommorow is the day. If you guys have any other thoughts for me on this, please chime in. I'm scared it is too cheap and I may not get it if I wait, unless you guys can give me some good reasons please.

It's a 97 Disco. Is that ever a good decision?

Made it further than half of the other guys, but the Hammers won.

I've seen several older disco's being sold with bad engines for $1,000-$2,000.... seem in-line with what i've seen floating around. Good luck.

If the rest of the truck is in that good of shape it sounds like a good deal. I will say this though, as much as I loved my '95 Disco, it was a nightmare at 110k miles. Both sunroofs stopped working (in the popped up position), almost every dash warning light was on, and the last straw was the T-case going out (I didn't even wheel it). I paid $9k for it in '03 and sold it as is for $2500 2 years later. The kicker was it "looked" like a brand new truck, perfect! Kind of like a boat, the best days were the day I bought it, and the day I sold it.... As much as I like Discos, I am a bit spooked by them these days.

thanks for the input. I missed the deal by 15 minutes. I then took it as a sign and kissed my defender and proceeded to buy a cadillac.
