Advice on Buying Long Distance

A good buddy of mine found a defender on ebay but learned there's bank lien on the title. The truck is located in detroit and he lives in virginia. Any advice on how to eaisly escrow the funds until the title is free-and-clear and the truck is on transport?

I've never done this before so I'm not of much help. I've always flow to the truck and driven them back. He's not interested in doing this due to the distance and dead of winter.

Go to whatever bank it is and hand the bank the check for the loan amount. Only safe way.

Make sure the seller has cleared the lien before you go. Locate the closest DMV and go there with the seller to transfer the title. Most states will give you a temporary registration/title for your trip home. I did this when I bought a truck in Colorado...that way I knew the truck was mine (title in hand under my name) prior to leaving the state.
