Oh yeah - revenue based on people not getting around to whacking their old accounts. I worked there for years and it totally baffles me, too. They even offer free e-mail when you cancel.
Guess we all have low-end services that we still pay for every month.
My in-laws still use it because they're in northern/rural Wisconsin and can't get high-speed. But that niche is starting to dwindle, as satellite/long-range wifi is getting more popular/cheaper.

On a related note, don't try to cancel Tivo - you'll get beaten with the same stick. Just tried to cancel a DVR that died and I didn't replace. They just didn't understand that I have two tvs and only need two DVRs; actually tried to convince me to hook up two DVRs to one TV.
