A new military

Well, Gentlemen, today we enlisted our first Soldier into the military as a Cavalry Scout. Gender integration in Combat Arms has begun.

Navy doesn't allow them in the submarine service given you cannot pass someone in a sub passage way without bodily contact. I would think that would keep the army from putting them in tanks

Also being a tanker, I don't see this working in Armor just do to the physical strength required. a tanker has to be able to load a 43lb shell ever 4 seconds continuously. I think that alone will keep them out of tanks. Bradley's will be a harder argument to make.

There is SO much drama involved in mixed gender units-and it's usually not the fault of the women either. Regardless, I still lament what is around the corner for us.

sometimes you have to make decisions that involving sacrificing the few to save the many in combat, and that becomes a magnitude of order more difficult to enforce when trying to overcome the instinct of guys trying to save girls instead of mission first.

Dont worry, they'll find a she male somewhere than can do the task to "prove" women are fully capable.

Ok, the female applicant did not wind up getting a Combat Arms MOS. the dumbass recruiter entered her in the computer as male. We caught the glitch when we looked at the physical requirements for the MOS.

BUT.... females WILL be integrated into Combat Arms in 2016. Thankfully I will be out by then.

My sister became a Marine pilot so she could blow stuff up. It was the only front line combat role available.

Well, when we looked at the physical requirements(PT Test) for the MOS, the liaisons realized that the standards were that of a male applicant. That's where they caught it.

I have to give the girl credit. She was pissed when she couldn't be a CAV Scout. From the looks of her, she probably would have made it.

That was the way it was when VMI went coed. Those female rats were impressive.

Odd, that was the exact opposite of my experience at the Citadel.

That being said, I've served beside some amazing women in combat. Conversely I'd also note that they've had a tough time getting them to last at our Infantry Officer Course.

Maybe we need to acknowledge that a standard exists because the enemy doesn't give a rat's ass about gender equality; there is just those that survive and those that don't.

Citidal had what's her name and was forced. VMI had some time to plan. I got to know a few of the female rats pretty well when I was at W&L.

Shannon Faulkner...a bane of my existence as a Junior when she briefly attended. The next year went a little better, till they set a couple of them on fire...

Things are better now, followed much the same growing pains as the service academies.

A) Are we in the mud pit yet?

B) Ray, did they really set a couple on fire?

C) What is wrong with "bumpin' canoes" on a submarine?
