Question A friend of mine is stranded in the Dominican Republic, should I help him?

Need advice. This musician friend of mine sent me a text that he got stiffed by some people that owed him some money (of course long story) and that he is now stranded in the DR (he said he went to visit someone) with no cash to get to the airport. He asked if he could borrow $130 via western union so he can fly to Maryland for some gig than back to LA. He said he already bought his tickets before he left. I've known this guy for about 6 years so I sorta feel bad for him, but the voice of reason tells me that I should just let him rot because I'm not his daddy. What would you guys do?

They way you lay it out, I wouldn't be his daddy. Sounds like thats what you're thinking anyway...kinda sucks but fortune favors the prepared. Screw the gig...fly home to la.

I would feel obligated if he was kin, sent by me personally to do some job, or was someone I owed a favor. Otherwise I would just say that I was very sorry that they were in such a pickle but that I was not in a position to be of assistance.
Sounds like his story is well rehearsed and is probably being dropped on a whole list of people as I write this. He is likely hoping someone rises to the bait.
I don't think 130 bones will get you out of the Dominican Republic, seeing that it is surrounded by both water and Haiti.

This is what I'm gonna do, he said if I could send it by so and so time, I'm just going to wait until after work and when if convenient for me according to my schedule. It's a legitimate call for help I'm talking to him directly, I just basically texted him "you got 700 friends on facebook and not one of them are willing to help you out" He said he will pay me back when he gets back. He drove a beat up 91' jaguar xj pos that he just donated to charity because it wasn't running any longer. Now he buses it and hitches rides everywhere I guess.

Well I may be helping him out but I'm going to take my sweet time to do it, if I don't do it today, I'll do it tomorrow, or the day after that, I'm real good at procrastinating haha. But he said he'll pay me back. So I'm assuming he will, and if he dosen't, well guess I lose $130. I just feel bad he might really be stranded with no possible help. Mabye his situation will change in a few days.

I mean, what is $130 to you anyway? A bar tab?

And who asks for $130 anyhow? Do ATM machines in the DR spit out 5s and 10s? Why not an even $200?

This is all through text messaging, not through facebook or e-mail. We even talked about another mutual friend of ours in detail that nobody else would know about. And just in case before I send it, I will call him directly to make sure he still needs it. Knowing him, I'm pretty sure he's in need, he often plans very poorly. The $130 he said is just for food and the taxi to get him and his luggage to the airport. Not for plane tickets, he already bought that in advance he said.
