I guess that if we have to opt in for Neil's posts the picture quality may improve dramatically. So there's that.

Can you set it up so we can choose a "lifetime opt in"? That would make it easy and maybe less annoying. the button could say "Adults Only"......ha!

Yes, that would be the intent. You simply check the box and save settings once and it will remain that way.

I certainly hope this ruckus hasn't come about on account of me being a hater and wanting to buy the Wolf's Uzi. I hope I'll ever get over hating those who massacre children.
Secret coded message to the Wolf:
"John has a long mustache"
"John has a long mustache"
and
"wound my heart with a languor monotonous"
ha,ha... this is ridiculous.

I enjoy reading the thread about watches and I wear a $20 piece of crap. I enjoy reading the fancy shoe threads and I buy my boots at Walmart. Every thread involving Neil is priceless.

When you decide which frivolous topics are acceptable and which aren't you are imposing your values on others. That dog doesn't hunt very well around most folks here whether it's your D-90 Source or not.

Well then this topic should be flagged as well. What about all the MOD defenders! They are military equipment! Even more dangerous than a gun

I posted up a Poll thread for this because I am interested in understanding where the members opinions lie on the subject. Myself I believe the less moderation the better (within obvious reason like Porn, etc.). This to me just seems like a way to moderate out certain topics because a few donít like to have to skip reading them.

I think itís a non-issue and we all control what we do and donít want to read quite easily already but I may be wrong and most of the membership disagrees and thinks we need it. Hence the poll.

Andy and Site Team, I know this is not a democracy and you can do as you wish with your site but hopefully if you can see that the majority of members donít want this then you may reconsider? Of course if the majority do then itís a non-issue.

The gun issue is a bit more tricky. If there is a liability issue and you may be on the hook then of course we need to protect the site. Hopefully however you can work something out with Ron or somebody else to protect you or find itís a not the case and we can continue as we are.

This site is not perfect but it works very well and I would hate to see it Ďmessed withí to a degree that it changes and becomes something we no longer want to participate in.

Ian

Ian,

I moved the poll, sorry. The option is going to be opt-in to see the hot topic threads, not opt-out.

As I have mentioned multiple times in this thread, its business as usual. The only difference will be that members will need to opt-in to view some of the "hot topic" threads.

As a result cutting down on the traffic to the so called "hot topic" threads as many new members or occasional users will not be aware of the opt in requirement.

Call it what you want but you are engineering it to work a certain way, if you wanted to have “business as usual” you would leave it alone or have it set to opt out as only the people that do not want to read such material would OPT out and they would not be participating anyway so it would be business as usual. You have an agenda and that is fine, just admit it and tell us like it is.

It is my site, my decision and this is what I want it to look like.

Easy enough right?

FYI, I do not read the gun threads that often I do not even have a gun. I stay away from most of the political threads as I think they are silly and do not look at most of Neil’s threads that often. They do not hurt my feelings I do not care if they are there I just click on the links that I am interested.

I am only posting as I am concerned about what comes next…

Out of curiosity, isn't it simpler to just create a separate members-only subforum called "Hot Topics", the purpose of which is identical to "misc chit/chat" but may contain controversial and/or polarizing material?

I mean...unless what we are really talking about is a software prototype for some kind of automated or semi-automated content filter...

If recent events has caused this much small arms chatter in this forum, the prepper forums must be on FIRE!

The last Friday event it is indeed a tragedy, but far from a having a section of gun for sale.

The true agenda might be, advertisers might no place ads if he is not politically correct with the ignorance.

After exchanging some emails with Ron and getting his legal perspective on this, I am going to switch the setup around a little so we can accomplish everyone's goals. Just like Ron and Ed suggested, we'll setup a sub-forum under Misc. Chit-Chat called "The Mud Pit" (if you have better ideas for a name feel free to submit them). The forum will be opt-in but there will be instructions at the top of the forum on how to opt-in so it's pretty obvious.

As for allowing gun for sale/wanted discussions, I'm okay doing this as long as they are posted in The Mud Pit. I would be grateful if you all would agree to a certain post limit to get access to this forum so we don't get any newbie showing up with zero posts trying to get access and then attempt to buy a gun from a member. If we force members to make 5 or 10 posts before they can get access then they have to show some cards and this could provide valuable insight to a buyer/seller. What do you all think about a post limit?

Seems like a better solution to me, I would go 25 posts though
