84 D90 -- value?

I swear my search efforts came up short hence the post....thanks in advance for the guidance.

I'm looking at a Defender in the morning which I'm told is a recently imported LHD exMOD with only 60k miles and a thorough refresh. It's supposed to also have service records going way back as well and be in good overall mechanical condition.

Any ideas on what it's worth? Is this a $15k, $25k, $35k vehicle as I've (poorly) described? I'm having a real tuff time discerning the value of these 2.5 liter naturally aspirated non-turbo models. I recon these engines are the least powerful of those in Defender line ups but if so how much and how much of a "ding" to the value does it impart?

Hopefully I'll be a new Defender owner soon....here's the rest of the specs. Thanks in advance for your input.

SAL Manufacturer code: Land Rover
LD Model: Defender (for early models: Ninety, or One Ten)
V Wheel base: 92.9 inch, but designated 90
A Body type: 2-door: Pickup, hood cab, truck cab, or soft/hard top
C Engine type: 2.5 litre diesel (model 12J)
8 Steering and transmission: Left-hand drive (LHD), 5-speed manual (LT85, LT77, LT77S, R380 or other)
A Model year: 1983, 1984
A Assembly location: Solihull, UK

Seller usually asks a ton of money, so good luck.

I saw the listing for that. There is no added value in a KBX front grill, homemade tailgate, fresh paint, and black spray paint over everything. Most of the membership know what dealer spray paints everything black. Did not want to post the listing and step on toes, but if you decide to post the description and pictures you will get a lot of opinions about it.

Appreciate the feedback. Ok now I'm getting worried that I should turn tail & run as his asking price is considerably higher than the $15-17k range.

Any other sources for determining value? I don't see Kelly Blue Book or similar sources being available for vehicles like this.

What are the drivers for price of a vehicle like this? I see some of the later year Defenders going for crazy money but admittedly this is a small non turbo 4 cyl diesel that's been cleaned up and prepped nicely.

This one is not for you. Allow someone else to be burned thoroughly by a bad truck.

Ragin,
The more info you post, the better folks here can help you with a fair price. You are not providing much to work on here.

I'm not sure why some people are afraid to call someone out.

Todd, post the seller and you'll get honest and sometimes harsh opinions.

Wow, this is a spirited group...I like it.

Here's the listing:

Land Rover Defender "Leftenant"

This 1984 Defender D90 has 68K on the clock , equipped with 5 speed manual and 2.5 liter factory diesel engine. Complete overhaul with new parts , paint job was finished in Wimbledon green from 2015 Range Rover. All new interior components have been installed , water proof seats and flooring. LED headlights , KBX front end kit , new wheels and tire combo.

Tons of history and service records! Tons of extra parts as well as modifications that are available and included in the final sale. The VIN plate on brake booster and chassis are in order with corresponding engine numbers matching all importation papers. All documents involved in the importation and titling process are readily available so please feel free to contact me. I was the importer and first time stateside title holder and with that being said I'm not a second or third party seller and stand by my product in the legal importation procedures used.

Still trying to reconcile my first impressions against reasonable expectations of what a 31 yr old imported 4wd should look like.

Any interest in a soft top 110? Neil Hanekom/Randy Williams have a couple of honest ex-MOD 110's that are well sorted. Neil's been driving one about 100 miles roundtrip a day just because he's having that much fun with it!

Actually yes, I'd be interested in a soft top 110. I'll drop you an email for more info. I just looked at this one last night and although I'm not a fan of the camo paint I think it would fit the bill. Looks like he just passed on $19.2k so I'm trying to figure out if it's worth $20k or not.
