Kilts are about wearing your clans plaid. Its a tribal thing. Not getting this @ all.

If you can't walk into a kilt shop and tell them your surname and be handed the correct tartan wtf are you doing and why ? Wearing a real kilt is like wearing 4 pairs of jeans, its a ton of closely pleated wool.

Our family is part of the McGregor Clan which were the legendary highlanders. While proud of that heritage, the only time I have worn a kilt in my life was @ my brothers wedding in a small chapel beside Loch Ness in 2003. It was culturally, situational, and locationally appropriate. Absent that, I don't get the posuer attraction for others.

I know its all in good fun and all...but you guys drive LR's and spend all this semi-silly money for what most folks in the UK think is junk...and you're going to make fun of kilts...really! Heck I'll bet 1/3 of are only 3rd or 4th generation in the US and have relatives in the UK that you could visit with a phone call...

5.11 put the kilt on their web site last year as an April Fool's joke. They got such an overwhelming response from their customers they decided to release a limited run last October. This is their second limited run.

I'm with Uncle Doug. It's all about the tartan...except for me it's Clan MacLeod, a highland clan from the Isle of Skye.

I think whats happened is the saying "real men wear kilts" has been interpreted as a challenge by some.
The saying should be "real men wear kilts in Scotland during winter".
