Ha...ha...ha

For real though you should never go out alone. I've done it before and always regretted it. You should also always have a friend that can help get you out.

These guys are either trying to scam the insurance company together or the tow company is trying to take advantage of the situation. Either way, I'm sure some of the damage to that jeep existed prior to the recovery.

Yeah, I got stuck alone once, not too far out. And it was the weekend before I put a winch on.....

My bill was only like $250. The guy showed up in a Toyota Tundra with a crane on the back and a 12k lbs winch. He got stuck.

I thought a towing supervisor would get $12.50, not $1,250??

A vehicle with unibody has a broken frame? I'm pretty sure I could have driven out of that mud hole. I find it hard to believe he didn't know that he was trespassing.

It's a late 90s heep....you know the dude bought used super swampers on Craigslist with 10% tread left. The truck wasn't going anywhere under its own power

Let's just look at the situation, dude is wheeling alone, without a winch . . . and stop . . . he was just asking to get stuck, then who calls a tow company anyway when they are in this situation?? anyone heard of phone a friend??

I gotta throw the BS flag on this one fellas . . . now his POS happens to be broken, don't get me wrong, owned a Wrangler and wheeled the snot out of it, but it does in fact appear to be a POS.

When you call the tow company, don't you usually ask . . . how much to come tow my sorry ass out of this mud hole in the middle of BFE??

End of rant . . .

Not when you are trespassing and the police call for you. I wouldn't be surprised if there is more to the story. I would think most police officers would be reasonable and allow you a little time to get the truck out before calling a tow truck.

Sorry to say this reminds me of one of my first wheeling adventures back in 1990 (wow, I'm getting old).

Similar power line trail, similar sinking of front end like the titanic (though I have to say that it didn't look like the mud bog he was in, but it swallowed the front of the truck none-the-less..

Had to hike out and hoof it to a payphone (remember when these were around??) I didn't really have any friends into wheeling. Did have a friend with a 4wd. Had him come pick me up. Went to a hardware store and bought a come-a-long. Convinced him to drive into where my truck was stuck (ground was solid right until I sunk). That was worthless, and no amount of sticks and other debris stuck under the tires seemed to help free it either..

Called a friend that was a mechanic. He tracked down a guy with a Toyota Pick-up with an M8000 Warn on it. Even with my friends pathfinder tied off to the back of the Toyota Pick-up, and the winch double-lined, it was a tough extraction (yeah come-a-long was a great idea..not)...

Some six hours later my truck was out. I think I gave the guy $50 bucks and much thanks..

P.S. - Watched the Video, Tow Company came up with alot of BS if you ask me...
  • Took 7 men and 12 hours to remove it? Really?
  • A Tow supervisor bills at $1,250 an hour (I'm in the wrong business, and that these fees 'reflect the industry standards?)
  • Hazard pay for being near power line towers (some people's homes are under the same towers these days)
  • Off Road Recovery Incident Team for $11K (7 men that couldn't pull a jeep out in under 12 hours?) - Maybe we should all start Off Road Recovery Indecent teams in our area)
  • Hazmat Situation?

Seems like someone trying to get rich off this situation..

The story on Pirate is that the owner was trying to get a friend. The tow company was wheeling in quads on the same trail and called the police on the guy. They have the exclusive tow rights with the police....

So the Tow Company was trespassing on the land, and called the police on the guy who was stuck? Oh this just keeps getting better..

everything on the Internet should be believed as fact until proven otherwise.

What annoys me about this sort of story is that the media can't spend 5 minutes figuring out the truth. The photos look like a normal powerline access road and a stuck that takes 15 seconds to get out of.
