I like how they put in a standard blurb about an appeal. What are supposed to appeal? The lack of information or the fact you weren't charged?

We had two 2004 110's come in to our dealership that the DoD owned. They put one on a flatbed, and towed the other one with two wheels on the ground. We were told they we used for training because a Defender is the most likely vehicle that the troops would see overseas, and they are slightly quirky... I think I posted pics in the Defender sightings thread.

Any one of us can go to the UK, and bring in a 2012 top of the line fitted puma and import it on a bond. And if you never try to operate it on public roads or attempt to illegally register/title it, all you've done is lose your bond. The hard part is not getting a hold of the trucks, be it ex military or import. The impossible part is to do so in a way that it is legally drivable on public roads (&insurable & is not a major liability waiting to happen if its ever in an accident or someone desires to do some digging). It doesn't matter what people have done in the past, or continue to do. Am I jealous of your "25 year old" puma, yes, but I can't afford to take the chances. Maybe some day when I can spend enough on my hobby to not give a $hit but until then I'm going to not give anyone any cause to mess with me. But maybe I'm just a pussey.

A bit.... But no doubt RN gets money from DOD. Hell I'm getting money from DOD right now....

I do have 1st hand knowledge that Delta owns and deploys Defenders (and mitsu and hi-lux quad cabs) all the time and all over the world. I have second hand knowledge that all the other "elite" groups do the same.

Interestingly, I heard a rumor (meaning >2nd hand knowledge) that the contraband defenders that customs confiscate are "recycled" (for parts and full running trucks) to DOD for the elite units to use as they feel fit. This is unsubstantiated. But, honestly I could not think of a better positive feedback loop to resupply supply parts and trucks for the best-of-the-best as they operate in not friendly parts of the world.

I discovered last night that the Jeffco Sheriffs Office in Golden Colorado is among those elite units.

Remember I paid the taxes that pay for those projects!

Sort of. I think its more of a Cat Logistics screw up. For example, I can't order a fuel filter for my 300 tdi through the dealership because it is a market specific item, but I did order a 300 tdi water pump which they had in stock in the NJ warehouse. The water pump was only about $60.

Bump this thread back to light.

The 2003 London Taxi XII sold in LHD in the USA has the 2.4 ford transit motor in it. Not a 2.2 ltr as earlier mentioned. Thought I would picture the EPA tag under the hood for this thread to coallate data with.

I'm not sure I'd agree defense spending in this country could ever be described as small ...please spend my money wisely i worked hard for it.

The price comparison is relative to the alternative, you could always be speaking German. Besides, we spend A LOT more on entitlements than defense...a you concerned about how that is spent?

Yes. We should gut 95% of the federal budget then levy tariffs to fund the rest. Worked for almost 200 years.
