Not Defenders, but we had a convoy of about 30 2014 Range Rover Sports en route to Asheville from Charlotte... Driving Experience tomorrow! On road and closed-course today was awesome!

At the Grove Park Inn tonight...

That explains it. I was returning from camping with friends by Wilson Creek (near Lenoir) heading south on 321 and saw several. Said to myself "that can't be coincidence". Wonder if they even noticed my 110 heading the other way.

The new Sport is great. I thought the overall training was a bit short and too rushed tough. Just
Finished yesterday. Grove Park and Biltmore have some great views.

Yes, the views at Grove Park are great! Feeling a bit rough this morning, but the coffee will fix it soon enough... Excited about the Biltmore.

I too felt the launch was rushed and overall too short.

You're right about the back end. Overall I really like the car. The interior, handling, power, braking, front end, profile, and general feel of the new sport is great. But the back...

After driving the competition that was available I can't imagine why a consumer would choose any of them over a Sport. Or in the case of the Q7 over an LR4.
In my opinion only the Cayenne came close and it was $86000 and still lacked the looks and size of the Sport. $18000 more than an HSE Sport and $6000 more than the 510hp SC V8!

Here is another angle, I'm very surprised there is no tread plate on the rear, same as the Evoque.

there is a reason why sharks and dolphins look alot alike; evolution of design. I think we are going to see a decreasing amount of design variation across brands and the increasing govt regulation forces them all to the same engineering solutions.

I was there the first wave, I would agree, it was rushed and short. The '13 RR Launch was much better in my opinion. That being said, I agree, nothing really compares, especially for the price.

Did you have onlookers hanging out their car windows and taking pictures too? We had people driving up and down both sides of the convoy admiring the cars and taking cell phone pics! haha

------ Follow up post added July 1st, 2013 12:17 PM ------

Also, it always chaps my ass to hear people say that the RR looks like an Explorer, or the Sport looks like a Grand Cherokee. I agree, they have a lot of the same design cues, but what really bothers me is that LAND ROVER came up with it, THEY COPIED US!

The problem is, these huge car companies blow through design, production and testing much faster than our little Boutique Land Rover, so although Land Rover penned these designs several years ago and had the vehicles more or less fully designed, with the exception of minor tweaks and final On/Off Road and Hot/Cold Temp Testing. The big guys come in, copy the design and get it into production and showrooms first and then everyone says JLR Copied Them!

Those new Sports look pretty good. So price tag is in the $60k and up? We need to get some more years on my wife's L322 but always looking for the next one. A Sport in a few years might be a good buy but that Jeep GC with the diesel might be hard to beat.

Stop complaining. Have some bloody decorum.

Sort your processes and production out and get your products to market faster. Don't whine in public that your competitors are doing a better job ...

I'm not whining and I don't believe they do "do it better" I just think it is a matter of greater volume and less R&D as compared. Personally I don't care if others look like Land Rovers, I consider it a compliment that they want to copy what we've done. It just bothers me to hear people make the accusation without knowing the truth of the matter.

Yes, the Jeep GC hit showrooms first, and yes the back of the Sport looks an awful lot like the Jeep; however, the RR was penned earlier, is better built, much heavier duty and much more capable than the Jeep. The Jeep is a great product, especially for the Price Point, but nobody can drive both and look at the build quality and quality of materials and honestly say that the Range Rover isn't a Better Vehicle overall.

I've owned Jeeps and loved them and I had an F150 that I loved too, but there is absolutely no vehicle in the world with the Breadth of Capability that a Range Rover has.
