I have to wonder if the lack of airbags and some form of structural support from the door tops up will prevent this from coming across the pond. I honestly doubt we'll see it in NA.

They would have to mate that engine up to an auto trans to sell in the USA ( in addition to everything else req'd) since most Americans think a third pedal is a footrest.

No, of course, this will not be coming to North America. You need to wait for the next model and then it is only a maybe.

It is not just airbags and rollover protection. The engine would not meet the emissions regs.

I think the new engine would because I think the EU's regulations came in line with ours for 2012MY.

Isn't the brake pedal the footrest? Sure seems to be.

No the NOx limits are more stringent in NA requiring urea.

Euro 5 is 0.18 g/km, Euro 6 (2014) is 0.08 g/km (for passenger cars) higher for commercial. So come 2014, everything of any size will need urea as well.

US EPA is a confusing mess...but fleet average is 0.044 g/km and highest possible in the fleet is double this.

Particulate matter dropped a huge amount from Euro 4 to 5 causing the requirement for a particulate trap.
