Nothing like a good "Defender will be back in 20XX" thread to get everyone's blood pumping. I'll set the over/under on this thread at 4 pages.

... but nothing new will be learned.

What I've read about any future defender anywhere, is that in order to meet UK safety requirements it would be a total redesign in 2010. So if tata does bring it to the US in 2010, I doubt if it will be anything like an NAS defender.

Land Rover did apply for and recieve a patent for air bags that were incorporated into an internal roll cage in the US.

It's True!! I just sent my hefty cashier's check off to a guy in Nigeria who is going to hook me up with a 2010 - D110 Zambizie Silver truck! it is going to be way cool.

I'm trying to remember all the NHTSA regulations and what not... but I find it very interesting that they keep referring to the Land Rover Defender as a "recreational" vehicle throughout that patent.

At least it would appear that one of the major stumbling blocks for Defender re-entry to the US market has been dealt with.

Just off the phone with my guys in the know at Land Rover UK and they said this BS.

The only new model looking to come to the US in that time frame is the that Range Rover Stormer thing (looks like a small RR Sport 2 door).

The Defender is still not scheduled for a redesign (required to pass NHTSA) according to my internal source.

I do not check PMs. Call or email if you need something.

ECR is not a parts source. We are not in the mail order business.

There was a mention on another website that the FJ Cruiser was going to be dropped from the Toyota lineup in the near future. Might be true or false, but it seems to point to the fact that in this day in age, it is less and less likely for the car manufacturers to make these types of vehicles for too much longer, or bring them back, whatever the case may be.
