Smile 2008 L322 Trans Failure..

2008 L322 Trans Failure..

driving at 65 mph and trans stopped working... pulled to side of road put truck in park and it rolled backwards... there is no park.....


was told by Land rover tech that output shaft from trans stripped flange to transfer case....
anyone heard of this...

Have a fix ..

have a trans????

have a transfer Case?????

These were just on sale for 1560 I believe, a bit more now.
I was looking at resealing my tcase and after seeing what the re-seal bill was I thought maybe just go this route: 2005 -2009 LR3 Transfer Case 4.4L V8 (Professionally Rebuilt)

Make sure you use the special grease on the splines, I have a tube here somewhere

is the shaft removable without taking the trans apart?

I'm sorry, the pictures are showing the intermediate shaft between Ford transmision and LR transfer gearbox. It's common inside the TD4 (Puma) engine generation inside every Defender. And it fails like yours.
To replace the shaft some very special tools are necessary!
And the transfer case plus the added case keeping the shaft, have to be removed too.

Man, this sucks - I'm still trying to get around to buying one of the SC'd L322's - is there a pre-emptive surgery that would prevent this?

And is pulling a medium-sized Airstream gonna make me 10x more likely to fall victim?
