It's probably just the new 110 interior that we will never see over here. It looks good, I'd like to have one!

Its the Fall 2007 dash. It comes along with some other updates and the Ford Transit based diesel engine. There is also a new bump in the hood to clear a motor part (haven't seen that yet though). Gone will be the Td5 and the 300 Tdi (even for ROW markets the Tdi is going away).
BTW, the factory says air bags are no problem, its crash structure in the bulkhead that is needed to be redone for the US market.
I posted a blog on the ECR site about this about 4 months ago, but removed it because jerks thoguh I was trying to sell them something.
If anyone has a Discoweb account you can tell those guys that the ECR 110s do have dash vents. We use the 2004 spec parts (bulkhead, plastci, etc) to rebuild those trucks and it has the center radio mount and vents that work.

What always baffles me is that Land Rover itself says NO WAY on a Defender in the USA until the next total re-design that may or may not come in 5 years or so, but US Rover fans continue to make up stuff and speculate that a new Defender will be available to them in 2008 (aka "a couple years").
I've been hearing "in a couple years it will be back" since 1997... its almost ten years later... still nothing on the horizon.

Its like 1974 all over again. Rover said "screw the US market. We'll pull the Series III because it doesn't meet the NHTSA standards because we can sell these things all over the freaking world. Who cares about the US market."
It took 19 years and the relaunch of a brand (LRNA) into the USA to bring a Defender (1993 110 and then 90s) in as they wanted an image car to get things rolling.
Things are rolling with LRNA and they, LR itself, can still sell Defenders all over the freaking world and they don't need the tiny US amrket to be able to sell Defender product. In fact, as they are they can't fill orders fast enough to the rest of the world.

Its like talking to a brick wall though... reality blinded by wishful thinking I guess.

Personally I hope they hold off that redesign for a LONG time. I don't want a uni-body, 4 wheel ind. suspension Defender, and as soon as they make that car they'll start cutting the parts production for the current version that I love.

How much fun will a Defender be that has so many electronic aids that tyou can't service it yourself,a nd if you wreck, it you toss it and get a new one, unlike today where Defenders are constantly rebuilt into weird and cool rigs by folks.

Don't wish to hard for the new one is what I say... its gonna suck!!!!

LOL... So true. No need for them to come back. We all have the cool ones and keep them on the road thanks to everyone on this board... There is nothing better then my Tdi with one wire running the entire engine. Now if that is not simple, I dont know what is.

Yup, I agree.
Its just that those couple of years will be preceeded by a decade.

Follow-up Post:

I made a mistake. I said "Fall 2007" dash in an earlier post. What I meant was its the 2007 model year dash. It should be out this Fall (2006).

Follow-up Post:

Can somebody grab thoes pix from Discoweb and post them over here. I've never seen the hood buldge, only heard about it.
The bludge is going into production like that. It isn't a temp. thing.

I kind of like that dash, but not the elliptical gauge console. It should have sharp lines that mimic those of the exterior. I wonder if the heating & cooling system has been consolidated? Both flow controls for heat and A/C appear to have been nicely grouped (a bit jeepish though).

Anyone know what the two chrome bezel circles are?

Air vents.

Follow-up Post:

Where the heck does the transfer case shifter go?
Look how far back that center section comes back, and its metal mated to the bulkhead. Take a look at that and then go look at where the diff lock lever is in your Defender.
I wonder what the plans are for the gearbox? Electronic transfer case operation???????
No diff lock only traction coontrol??????

Well, if they are dumping the Tdi for ROW, anything is possible. We'll wake up one day with an interior with a shifter like this and no Trans Case:
