Cool 2005 LA car show Jeep showing

So, this is what Jeep had on the stand, that and a tricked out CJ.
LR - The LR3, Range Rover, and a white tricked out Disco.
Staff (I spoke to 3) did not know what a Defender was, and one sent me to Jeep for 4x4 stuff.
I am not sure what the marketing campaign in North America is for LR, the TV ads seems to depict a vehicle that can go anywhere - to the ends of the earth. The LA car show was about creature comfort,
and civilized live styles. I cann't really disagree with a LR campaign or placement 'cause I do not know what it is. I do like the LR3 but Nissan and Toyota have vehicles I don't discount quickly.
In marketing terms, the segments of the top (Range Rover), and SUV (LR3) are well covered by LR. The sports off road segment is a write off for LR. Jeep, and all the Imports seem to be more aggressive in this segment, so I assume FORD will use it name for a vehicle here. With a 65 yrs global history here, I really do not understand not capitalizing on the branding.
Overall the LA car show was a drag, and unlike the Detroit, Paris and Frankfurt shows, I would not go back. Slim selection, most cars starting to really look alike, and staff that were clueless.

Yeah that Jeep thing has been making it's rounds, I hear it has 2 Hemis and 4 wheel steering. They say it can do circles around itself.

Its a jeep...of course you could break it....Give it one good day of trails and that piece of shit will fall apart.....

http://www.rockcrawler.com/reviews/j..._turn2_550.jpg

On a serious note though. From the picture it looks like there is to much to break on it, and im sure when it breaks it an arm and 6 legs to fix it.....

Well...at least it doesn't look like a van as a certain LR3 does to me...

Im not really sure the LR3 resembles a van very much. I have never seen a van do the things off road that the LR3 can do....Just my $0.02

Ok.
But...c'mon,look at the rear...!

Anyway,I meant that Jeep looks sure more purposeful than a LR3 i.e.
Bling bling bodies are not to all tastes, and LR is actually filling up its rows
of "saloon look" vehicles.

Only one to go,and what after????

Sheer sadness.

I think we can agree that the LR3 is nothing like we "old school" rover owners would want. We all want something that is like the Defenders...(rugged and tough)....Thats just not the direction Land Rover, I mean Ford, is trying to go...Who knows if the D90's will appear in the states again but Ford is making things more practical for daily drivers. Not to say i wouldn't drive my D90 every day. I do agree that the back end is not the pretiest thing ever and to be honest with you after I drove it a few weeks ago and all it completely changed my mind. Our LR3 should be arriving from Brittain in 5-6 months. Go figure that it would take 6 months and that no dealership in America has the one we want.....argghhhh

Funny thing this Ford, I just read the December article from Land Rover - NA edition on what the business at LR is doing. Pretty good article (pt 1 of 2). I understand the marketing and restructuring concept Rover has (pitty no one at the LR booth in LA did or could/would discuss it). LR is using the range Rover to resolidify its market image, and the LR3 is in line with that (although quality issues are still a problem). After the read, I actually felt more positive on the Defender coming back to the US. My assumption is it will be off the LR3 platform, not for a few years, and if the 1st defenders sell well, then "sport" or "kit version will appear. We are about to go the Harley route. Buy a bike, then strip it down, and rebuild it .
Time will tell, so until when ever, who gives a fuck! I already have mine.

I really like this jeep concept. Kinda the same idea as a 110 pickup. I like it simple, tough looking and runs on a diesel and doesn't look to silly to get in production. Jeeps are pretty reliable. My wrangler has not had one single mechanical problem. That is a CONCEPT they are never going to make a hurricane. I think it would be really fun to have an rc version.

I like the look to. But...
I wonder what the deal is with the LR diesel.
I have driven several (Defender, a Rover sedan) in the UK. Are the US laws that different?

what? Are you talking about fuel cause that's not the only reason i'm interested in diesels. No ecu, more torque, better wading etc.

Second in line! It took me too long to get mine to just roll over and take all this crap about new Defenders and all that.

Of course, I really like turning wrenches and fabbing stuff out of stainless so if I can every scrape the scratch together to get a new one it'll be hard to resist.
