2004 Paris Auto Show

Thought I'd share this photo of the 2005 Land Rover Defender 110 Crew Cab SE. It was shown at the Paris Auto Show in late September. Obviously it's not for the NAS market. Follow the link for a larger image.

I hadn't seen this front-end on a Defender before. I really like the low profile A-bar bumper and grill/aux lights.

looks like nothing more than a big useless piece of plastic. Reminds me of the styrofom type brush bars on the P38(?) Range Rovers, and those stupid plastic bumper endcaps remind me of the 4 letter J word. Nonetheless still a bitchin 110.

Yeah...clearly an aesthetics thing vs. offroad utility. Found a few more shots from the show.

Nope, neither.

It's a pedestrian-friendly brush bar, meant to comply with new laws in Europe. Soon there will be exterior airbags on cars.

I can see it now:

Pedestrian - <Thinking to self> "Hmmm I wonder if that car is going to stop...ah hell, I'm in a hurry, besides what's the worst that can happen?"
"Oh $h*t!!! Is that an ARB???!!!" "NOOOOOoooo!!!"

Interesting the EU work these things get. I must say, I like the wheel arch flairs in the last pix - green D, and the red tub top is not a bad thing. A bit flash for me, but a hard top like that is an interesting idea.

I think that "green D" is Crosslander, a former Eastern-bloc product that some company keeps threatening to sell. I understand that they are very cheap-o.

Oh my god, that chromed luggage rack is hideous. Jeezuz.

Yup, that's the C-lander: http://www.lokeycrosslander.com/cross/index.html
(not affiliated with them in any way).

Funny, it looks as though Randy finished his truck, with a hardtop no less.

A c-lander. That explains the weird front.
Well, with Ford in the shit house, financially speaking, AND with the Coventry Jag factory shutting down, AND with Jag F1 team cancelled, AND with Cosworth division on the blocks (drove a Cosworth engine in the UK for 6 months - very nice), it is looking like we are not likely to get a Defender in the future.
Bravo to FORD management for making themselves the CHRYSLERs of 1980s for today.

Follow-up Post:

Oh, but I still like the eyebrown on the C-lander, but I agree on the crome thing-a-ma-jig. I just like the hard body tub cover. Reall nice to mount the mountain bikes and gear to.

Thanks Michele - I was thinking it was a Santana too - which is basically a 109 with an Isuzu engine and a Vitara interior, and parabolic cart springs. Would be interesting for some (Italian?) motoring press to pitch one against the 110 TD5. My truck has a Santana gear box of course.

Ehi Keith!
Good to hear from you!
Well, engine should actually be an Iveco 2.8 Common Rail...mmmh an Italian magazine tried and tested it (you get the vision...) IIRC...but if you dig in the past LRW issues I'm almost sure of a test drive of the Santana pitted against a 110Td5.

I could be wrong but it also got the cover pic.

Yell when you have a chance.
