2004 Disco pricing

Looking at a 2004 Disco that is mint. 1 Owner Florida vehicle with 53,000 miles. Recently had a few tasteful mods but nothing crazy.

Where is the market on these? He is asking $17,500 which seems like a lot but, figure I'd ask the experts!

Thanks in Advance,
Tim

That sounds very high. Do some internet price comparisons.

hahahaha $17,500 for a Disco 2. That is hilarious. Divide by 2 and you're still high.

I know of one that sold for less than that with a galvy chassis and new 4.6 Cannibal engine, same amount of miles.

I bought mine on the high side with very low miles thinking that it was going to be my 110 replacement and keep it forever bla bla. Bought a 110 a few months later.

Last of the solid axle LRs.

Fewer of them around town since most are let to die instead of costly repairs.

They look good and are comfortable travelers.

I think a well maintained low mile D2 in the teens is acceptable.

Yup.

Note that in my ad I start out by saying my price is too high. But I gotta start someplace.

Now, everyone knows that the 2004 is more desirable. And with the bolt on bits I have, the price goes up a bit. I like to think mine is ready to be kept as is, or ready to be really modified. It could go either way, so I hope that opens it up to a wider audience.

Low mile '04 Discos could still blow their motors tomorrow..
Search JE Robisonand he explains why.

Zack is right...that's crazy high $$$.(the 17K one, not necessarily Ben's)

I wasn't referring to yours as the absurdly high one.

That's a $10-12k truck, and as much as we think mods add value, they really don't. I bought a very clean 04 last year with 60k miles for $6800... I've dropped a couple grand into making it nicer and tune up and such, I wouldn't sell it for that now.

I had my 2003 4.6 blow -- literally, the front cover exploded and threw pieces all over the place.

The reason is that a particular batch has a very tiny manufacture error. The mounting dowel was off center just a tiny, tiny bit, and this caused the pulleys and pumps to be off just enough to wear, then wobble, then fail completely.

Believe me.... I did a lot of research into it and even got a lawyer involved with our fully covered by warranty 2003 when the dealer told us they would not fix it. I found an internal noticed sent out by LRNA that stated that they knew the problem existed, and the only fix for it was a new engine.

The specific SN for these problematic engines can be researched.

Yes between 5 and 8k depending...the closer to 100k miles the more severe the price drop...slipped sleeves and all. IMO...

Yep, I think I remember that fiasco.

But, that's different from the '04 issues.
My '04 got a Gems 4.6 (with the Bosch parts).
All '04 4.6's are crappier motor than the earlier versions.
I hope yours holds up.

Thanks guys- I appreciate the input.
I just went and looked at it. It quite possibly could be the cleanest Disco in the country-It's gorgeous
but 17,500 still seems high for me.

There are more clean Discos out there for less. For anything over $10k service records must be up to date etc. as with any car, service history is very important.

I would expect to see a rebuilt engine with top hat liners for over $10k. With original unmolested engine, the value is low as they could die at any second.

The Guy literally had every service record ever on the disco- and gave me the number of the mechanic that does all the maintenance/work on it. Mechanic says its been maintained with an open checkbook

As it should, it's way too high. There was a D2 on here a while back with less than 20k miles for the same or less.

Sure a 2003 isn't a 2004, but I'd personally want this one over pretty much any other and it was far far cheaper than the one you're considering.

Know of two D2s that have had to have replacement chassis.

These D2 chassis turn to dust and must be examined for failure. RN doing a decent business in Galvy D2 chassis I reckon.

I'd agree with red90 on this...even a well-maintained original motor in an '04 could let go at at moment.
And it isnt just the liners as the blocks were getting to be crap at the end of production, too.
