2004 D2 build. .

Hey Guys,
So I've just completed my build on this d2 and its ready for the overland expo this coming week in NC. I wanted to get some opinions on what this truck would be worth for insurance purposes as im needing to get my insurance guy a replacement price soon before I leave.. right after the expo, a few of us are heading to Utah and Colorado for 3 weeks of trail riding. .any input would be great! Thanks guys..

You don't get to see an 04D2 with a Tdi everyday.
I guess it was not an easy conversion.

The build included..
300 tdi 64k miles
R380
Full 3 inch suspension
Arb lockers front and rear.stock gears
All rovertyme front front and rear bumpers and rock sliders
Full rack

Not sure if I agree with the 10k price, not to long ago there was a white d2 2000 or 2001 that sold on ebay for around 19k and didn't have half the stuff mine has..he did have a 300tdi w a 5speed. He spent a fortune on the swap. I spoke with him personally when I was doing my build. It was located in Colorado. I dont have alot of money tied into this project, but the replacement value would be more than 10k.

Does standard auto insurance cover a wreck say from rolling into a flooded ditch at Moab (or at any off road event)?
People running HPDE on the track run into this problem all to often thinking they are covered when their $$$ 997, Z06, etc. is totaled. Typical exclusions might read "Any vehicle, located inside a facility designed for racing, for the purpose of: a. Competing in; or b. Practicing or preparing for; any prearranged or organized racing or speed contest."
Folks try to make the argument that HPDE is High Performance Driver's Education, not an "organized race" or "speed contest." In the end, they are not insured.
Whoever you insure it with, make sure you get it in writing that you are covered (both property and medical for you and your passengers) on the trails participating solo or in organized events. This might require an additional rider.

Well what it is worth to you and what someone else will buy it for are two different things. In the end there are few states that people can actually purchase this vehicle in. If you are insuring it against theft or damage not off-roading, I would say cover $8k for the vehicle with mods, $6k for the engine/tranny

If this is for insurance purposes, why would you ask us what we think it's worth? Doesn't matter. We don't know what you have into it. Attempt to get an agreed value policy for more than you have into it - that's the important thing. Should be easy enough.

You need an agreed value policy clearly stating the amount it's equivalent to in the event of a total loss

7 to 8k for the replacement value probably wont cut it..I spent 3250 for the d2 with all the accessories you see on when it had the v8 w 68k miles from a local rover member in fl.. got a sweet hook up for 200 and 300 tdi over the pond... I paid 2500 for a complete 300tdi, r380 and transfer case.documented 65k miles with all accessories ready for drop in.. paid additional 600 to be delivered to my home. Spent exactly 3750 for the install of thr engine and tranny plus all thr fab of work from motor mounts to turbo cooling system. This also included a new clutch and other misc items..so once the truck was up and running under its in power..ordered $500 vinyl wrap satin black and put that on myself. So I spent around 10k I would not sell it for 10 or insure it for 10k..

Im sure defender owner are not insuring their trucks for nothing less than what they purchased it for whether is a nas or row..I spent 5900 for my row d90 w a 200tdi 5speed all with a lift kit, rack and ladder, bumper and winch..nice truck.. I actually purchased my defender from D90 source website..
The replacement of my d90 is not 5900 for sure..

Well I don't know how to add to that. Sounds like you've been getting deals lots of people dream about!

Yeah unfortunately most states would require that vehicle to pass the emissions for the gas powerplant, however I am sure there is a list somewhere of places you could sell it.

Though the 10K valuation is a little low I think its not too far off given the small market that could actually purchase and register this vehicle. 50 state legal this thing would be worth north of $18K, when it turns 15 that will be another story as many states will no longer require emissions on the vehicle.

I moved this thread to Miscellaneous Chit Chat since it's not a build thread. It looks like you're looking for our opinions on its value, but only to argue that it's worth more? Maybe I'm just confused of the purpose here.

Nice work and projects. To help with your estimate, was there much interest in the D2 and the roller Tdi drivetrain when priced separately?
