looks like it's at a car lot, if they sold you this car, and it was confiscated and crushed should you be able to go after the seller?

this could be a great way to get a motor and trans swap,
1.buy car from shady car dealership,
2.pull motor trans and other parts you want for your truck
3. then make a call to the epa or whoever does the car crushing
4. then call lawyer and take the dealership too court...
5. Profit by new td in your truck!

If the statement "It has been federalized to meet U.S. standards" is true and it is documented then no need to go through all that.

well then you would have to 40k or whatever they are selling it for... in my depiction you get free parts at the expensive of the dealership, who wouldn't like that?

Forget all the non-legal issues. That truck is far too pretty to take off road and get all scracthed up.

someone shold buy it as a farm vehicle. i used to live on 100 acre farm and that would have been fun just for playing in the woods and running around locally.

No way in hell that it is street legal.

1. No airbag.
2. No external roll cage, which was required to meet rollover standards.
3. No rear side-marker lights
4. Speedometer/Odometer don't read in English units
5. Not enough brake lights (none on lower-right).

Knowing SouthHampton town cops, that thing is going to get pulled over real quick for the tail and side marker lights. And if it gets sent to a state inspector, WILL get the owner in some serious trouble. Too bad it's an hour and a half away, I'd like to see it up close and find what else may be missing.

One things for sure...the car is here in the states, and you can't just smuggle a car into the country like a box of Cuban cigars. Has anyone contacted the seller to get some more info on its "documentation?" Perhaps owned by some foreign dignitary who left it here? For 54 grand seems like a bargain, considering Stuart from Copley sells ultra-low milage 97s for upwards of 60.

Foreign dignitaries have to export any vehicle they bring, they can't ever sell them here- or I'd be driving an MGF right now. It's been faked somehow- it can't be federalized as a 2004.

It's not jealousy at all- RN has several illegal trucks and they dodge questions about the legitimacy. They've been in trouble several times in the past and probably will again. It's not loopholes, they are exploiting the fact that the laws are easy to exploit- for awhile.
It's annoying that some people think they're somehow above the law or somehow better than the rest and not subject to the same rules of society.

I think I know a bit about that truck.
Do you remember about a year ago someone listed a grey 2004 90 here for sale? Everyone got on the guys case and the seller pulled it, I know the guy who ended up buying it. The deal was, some contractor from Brooklyn brought back 3 of them from Italy. The black one he kept for himself, I saw it one day parked a couple of blocks from my office in NJ. I don't know how the guy brought them in, one option could have been as construction equipment. If you know the right people, it could work. A construction contractor from brooklyn bringing 90's in from Italy... you do the math.

I agree, it's a shame to see it for sale, especially from a dealership. Was very nice when I saw it, I snapped a couple of pics; however, a black car at night doesn't photograph well.

Laws are easy to exploit, we all do it everyday. I drove over the speed limit going to work this morning. I dont think I am above the law and I have no excuse if I get caught. I kind of look at the "gray market" defenders like that only driving over the speed limit in many cases is more dangerous and has the ability to harm more people than owning a not so legal Defender. Yes it is illegal but the only person who will end up getting hurt is the owner of the defender when it is impounded. Why is this always such a hot button issue? I say good for them, have fun while you have it.
