2002

Hi All,

Big B'day coming up. My Better Half/SWMBO wants a 2002/ti/tii. Her current fun car is a 996, but she wants something with a bit more character and always liked these...I was driving a 1600-2 when we met in school. We are looking for a nice, original car, ideally a later model (w/period yellow fogs a 320 honeycomb wheels...you all know the look).

The market for nice original cars is a bit thin, so I'm reaching out to the forums in addition to the usual searches. thanks.

Call Mario or Chirs Langsten at Vintage Sports and Restorations in Bow NH. He has restored quite a few 2002's and sometimes clients are looking to sell their cars. He would be the best place to find a nice car with NO BS.

Can only imagine how hard it must be to find a solid one now. Had several but my favorite was a turbo bodied ti. Korman cam, 10:1 pistons, 320i recaro's, and weber 45 dcoe's.
Learned performance driving & got in lots of trouble with that car.

Uber cool that your wife wants one.

Had a set of those 4 bolt bbs ra wheels around for decades but finally got rid of them when I moved from Maryland.

Still have a set of 911 Turbo/ C2 Turbo/965 18 inch turbo cup wheels with potenza's on them if anyone wants big 911 rubber. I have come to the realization I don't want another one.

I've owned 7 (or 8- I've lost count) BMW 2002's and love those little cars. My last one was a 1973 Inca Orange Tii. What I would suggest may sound a little heretic but there is a kit out there to put the later M46? 318i twin cam motor and 5-speed gearbox out of a later 318i in a 2002. I had a 318Ti as well and that eager little puppy of a motor would be outstanding in a 2002 body. The Tii engine's fuel injection system can be a real pain in the ass if it wants to be. (I have a factory set of Tii manuals that I will sell for around $150 if anyone wants them), The 318i engine makes more power than a Tii engine and with modern fuel injection runs smoother and more reliably. Its hard to find a 2002 that hasn't been popped in the snoot or doesn't have rusty rear quarter panels.

2002s are rad and cute as a button. But honestly I'd get my loved one a new 2-Series. It's a vastly superior car. Much safer, more efficient, cleaner, and handles much better.

But have nowhere as much character and efficiency and clean aren't a concern for a toy car. Plus her DD is an S4 so not a lot of need for the 2 series, they are nice though.

Thanks all for the input. Man that orange one is sweet.

Yeah, but if you got her to trade her S4 in for a new little bimmer she could have a DD and toy in 1, and you could have space for another Defender.

"You may also just choose to benefit from modern technology because there is no reason for a V8 to make 180 horsepower."

Sounds like he's talking about a Defender.
