2000 TD5 Defender 110 for sale Texas

So this truck, looks like it originally came from Germany and now it seems to be tagged and titled in Texas. How is it for sale and registered?
Anyone know the history? Seems like it might be associated with Geared Restoration

Clearly illegal and no mention of it being brought in under diplomatic exemption.
Maybe its being sold for "export" only. Nice truck though, except for the weird mounting of the high lift and the light bars blocking the radiator.

Interesting... Puma rear seat conversion. Can't tell if it's done properly or they are just bolted to the floor.

Don't think i have ever seen a Hi lift slung under the rear like that. If it's across the back like that, then there probably isn't any bracing from the NAS style rear bumper tying it to the frame.

If he gets stuck in the mud or sand, he will have to dig out his truck just to use the hi-lift.

Also I think this is a legit 2000 Defender, VIN decodes to a 2000 model year

Yes on the VIN.. mine is a 2000, build date was early July of 99, (a month ahead of this one) and VIN numerically about 2300 ahead. That is about right for production of around 115 trucks per day.

No doubt it is what it claims to be.

"I've put over $30,000 in upgrades and paint repair. Engine is in prime condition."

Common issues are cracked head (10P engine) one day it's fine, the next it's not. And with the new paint, you have no idea what's underneath. However the's definitely some $$ spent on the KBX & LED, Puma hood...

Really wonder about the the rear seats though. Would be interesting to get more info on it. The proper update is a HUGE job, you have to lift the tub do anchor them correctly. (I know, I just did it).

None the less.. how would you be able to keep it registered down there??

The guy says it has been in the states for 10 years and has been registered in 4 different states.
I wonder if a diplomat sold it, that would be the only way I see it being legal in any sense.
I'm very curious about it's history and how it ended up being in the states for so long. Probably first titled in some"easy" state like Florida.

No, that would be a cool truck. I have friend that is interested if it turns out to be fully legal, but he is assuming it is not actually legal.

It is not a question of registering it. It is a question of whether or not customs shows up one day and takes it away.

Pretty sure I drove that truck from Bama to Gainesville once. Made me want a TD5 so bad. It was so very smooth around town and the highway, great truck.

It's here. Do it the highroller way, simply bring in a 25yo PoS truck and do the swap here. Easy-pezzy. What you swap is your choice.
