It is my beater. Don't purchase it. But paper plays. $2900 for D-Source. Less if you promise to turn into a track car.

Thanks. No need to remind anyone here how painful it is to go from 28 mpg to 16 mph.

Proper home for this car: http://spece46.com/faq/
In a few years when this series gains traction and when the E46 (323 only, not the 328) is allowed in LeMons and Chump car, the floor of these will jump from $1500 to $4000.
Just try to find a clean E30 for less than $750 like a few years back.

Was the timing belt and water pump been replaced? How's the transmission? What does it need?

No belt, but original timing chain and H2O pump. A few of the radiator hoses have been replaced along with the plastic fill chamber (or whatever it is called). Replaced the exhaust cam hall sensor. Replaced some spaced aged looking dry wet bulb temperature sensor deep inside the dash. Total bitch go get too and my back reminds me to not spend an hour in a footwell again. But it was an excuse to purchase a nice set of deep Torx drivers. Always looking for an excuse to tool up, but I regress...
The car needs the thermal switch that activates the auxilary electric fan. They fail on so the fan remains on. I just run around with the fuse pulled and reach over and plug it in on hot days if in traffic. $200 for the entire auxilary fan assembly with thermal switch that I haven't bothered with but should replace. Will order and install: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/..._pg3.htm#item8
Transmission and drivetrain are buttery smooth. Original clutch. No chattering or signs of wear.
