2-door open top Hummer Concept

What do people think?

Looks like a new version of the Toyota FJ's, but may have potential??

Too many designer elements, combined with what, the platform from an S-10?

Hummer tries too hard to look like a Tonka toy.

Everyone knows that Land Rover needs to go this direction too. It would be cool if they kept the ol' Defender going forever, but its seems to me to be more likely replaced with something a lot more modern. Of course it wont be "the real deal" but if we're lucky maybe they'll at least come up with something desireable. The new Jeeps are pretty decent (even though everyone knocks them), so I'd be thrilled if Rover came out with something that primitive. Since they are such market whores, perhaps Hummer having an equivalent truck will convince them its worth a shot.

Any idea of a possible price range? That front end is ugly as hell(like it's predecessors). Has potential...

Jim, history might have some issue, though, with this direction. The market is littered with failures in the Jeep competitor segment. The classic recipe for a bomb always includes some version of a half top. Suzuki, Isuzu, LR, and others have tried offering a vehicle that was not a true convertible. Some have been better attempts at real trucks than others, but they typically fail. Why bother with hard to store panels, excessive pillars or roofing, and all? Worse are the ones with the canvas in the back, steel in the front. If you want a convertible, the driver must feel total open air - not just the rear seat folks.

Hummer should go back to the drawing board on this one. It may win design contests, but fail with real owners and potential buyers. The need a simple, timeless design that has durability. Their current design language is too heavy and looks dated fast. The top should offer more open access than panels around the pillars can allow. The brand really needs a new icon now that the H1 is off the civilian market (it really wasn't a good fit anyhow for most buyers).

I think AutoWeek had some design drawings of the new 2 door Sporty and small Land Rover, can't recall the name but it was much like this Hummer. They were going to build it (maybe) on the new LR2 platform.

I think it looks pretty sweet, but how will it perform off road? Looks like most of the trim / body panels are removable, interesting.
