Looks rusty to me.

I would not be interested in it at anything a dealer would sell it for.

Strange that they would photo reverse two LHS pics to emulate the RHS.

Hadn't noticed that, thanks. They also cropped both photos and changed the lightness on one of them. Hmmm.

Ask Clayton over here. He's an expert on '97s.

But as far as an opinion, those photos are all glamour shots, and do not really aid in the valuation of a D90. Have them send you additional shots of the usual rust-prone areas.

Looks like it's been an IL truck its whole life, and was recently at auction.

No doubt that most dealers take a bit more care with their "glamour shots." These guys couldn't be bothered and they're asking $39K?

The carfax is clean and it's the highly valued, ultra rare, white, station wagon. Not to mention the bonus of an automatic transmission.

Unseen, assuming it runs, based on those photos and these http://chicagosportscars.com/car/73348075.html what's it worth?

It's really ready for a rebuild. Soon. Good service history suggests ok mechanicals.
New chassis BH repair partial restoration....$$$$

That's just the dealer the current dealer bought it from. They had it listed at $32,900 when this new dealer bought it.

It would appear that the rear cross member and step-strocity have been tastefully misted with satin black.

And they are pretty lazy and damning glamour shots when you see rusty hinges and the rot in the door bottom corners and peeking from behind the floor mats. Nevermind all the wires hanging out of the dash thats not even there! See how the shifter strategicly blocks the huge hole in the door bottom.

You guys seem very knowledgeable... I have a question. I own a 97 d-90 just like this one. I hear it is rare, I've replaced front fenders so they are primer black and I was considering painting the whole truck a different color. Would that be stupid? I really don't ever see myself getting rid of it.... Any thoughts?

NAS 90's in general are rare but I do not think that a white SW is that rare of a color, more just a joke on this site.

It is a NAS truck if you change the color it will go down in value unless you find the right person that just has to have that color and it was done properly, people would rather buy one that is as original as possible in most cases and are will to pay more.

free advice take it for what it is worth

So back to the original question. Forget the dealer asking price and assume you won't get a chance to inspect this one.

My guess is that
- the rear cross member is crap
- the frame will needs some help but maybe not a swap
- the bulkhead has issues but is salvageable
- doors and sills will need repair and paint
- the floor will panels will need some work
- the engine, it runs but will need a major service
- the whole thing will need a good cleaning
- and a contingency...

It's clearly a project. The question remains, what's a good price?

Low 20's. A frame swap, bulkhead repairs and ancillaries will run you 13 to 15k.

A good price would be $20k - a great price would be $13k.

And here's another stupid question...

Does the automatic increase the value of a 90 or decrease the value? I prefer stick, but I figure the Hamptons/Nantucket set want to push the gas and go. So like for like which one gets a better price?

Thanks.
