I would actually budget closer to $5-6k, and hope that you only need to spend $2k.

That one is odd because I think it would have had BFG ATs by the time the black ones came out.

Not if they took those pictures way in advance for printing/approval purposes.

I didn't think any 94 had all terrains.

I think you can get the price down based on condition and the dealer probably paid nothing for it.

Brian tends to think that 94s are worth the least but I really think with Defenders it comes down to condition, color, and then year. I think people looking for blue ones obviously don't care about year. As for black obviously 97 is the most valuable but between 94 and 95 it comes down to condition. I would think if you could find a perfect 94 in black it would command a premium over a similar 95.

No, the only other '94 Black D90 that I am personally familiar with (driven and seen) had a M/T for a spare. I think they all came with M/Ts from the factory.

And those also almost look like gloss flares.

If you look at any of the 94 brochures they look like they have gloss flares. Probably pre-production shots.

I would say that this one is not a very good representation of a '94 LE D90. It doesn't have any of the stock accessories except for the color. The perplexing thing to me is the interior, which was reupholstered with black vinyl. Just imagine that in the summer. To make matters worse, it doesn't have AC.

There are no service records, but upon having it inspected it checks out mechanically and structurally. That's not to say it doesn't need anything. The power steering tank is leaking at the hose connection; coolant is leaking slowly; the oil lines are original. The brakes check out and it has one new caliper. Stainless exhaust. Leakage at the seals is typical and minor. The bulkhead, floorboards, frame, door sills are all rust free. There are a few bubbles in the paint scattered about. The top is a Badger and in excellent condition. The interior is in OK shape, but could use some TLC.

To me, this thing should go for $20K, but I suspect the dealer picked it up for about $22K and put a little work into it. Is this thing worth picking up at $25K?

Depends on you and how you feel about the truck. It is going to need some maintenance and looks like one sill is diamond plated?

Anyway the interior can always be redone easily so don't let that dissuade you. I doubt the dealer paid even 20 for it. Go in with cash and offer 22k and expect to spend 3 k fixing it up. Did you run a carfax?

I did run a carfax, for whatever it's worth. No apparent issues and it spent the past 17 years in NJ.

FYI -

I spent 6 hours traveling to CT to look at this truck. George (the guy who owns it) neglected to share necessary information about it prior to letting me make the trip. I am happy to share my findings with you. I did take about 50 PICs while I was there (in disbelief of its condition) thinking maybe I was just in a bad mood and wasn't giving it a chance. I might still have the pictures... In his PICs the truck did look pretty nice, but I had a different opinion once I saw it in person. Feel free to contact me via e-mail if you are interested in my opinion / findings. No matter what, I can confidently say that this specific truck is not worth $26,000 (that is what george said he would sell it to me for).

Please share your findings here so others like horsey can learn what to look out for.

...there isn't much distinguishing it as an LE except for the black vinyl (not leather) seats and a chrome shift knob. Thanks.
I think the leather that the factory used on these 94 LEs must have been pretty crappy. The leather on mine was in poor shape after only 30k miles (both sides too) - and was abnormally worn compared to the rest of the interior.

Exmoor XS skins. After about 40k miles, I still like them and they're doing well.
