"1985" Defender 110

I was just wondering what folks opinions were on something like this;

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Land-...item53f60b703f

Its being advertised as a 1985, however uses a brand new 2006 as a "donor vehicle", and was built onto a new galvanised chassis in 2010/2011. So, my question would be which part is actually the legally imported 1985? An example of a VIN swap perhaps? If one were to buy this as a 1985, how would one stand, legally speaking.

My opinion - the most effective way to fully "upgrade" a worn out truck is using a newer donor. A good solution that fits within the letter of the law as long as it's done post import.

One of the pictures in the ebay ad suggests the vehicle featured in LRM magazine, a UK publication, and pictures apparently show the same vehicle in a UK photo shoot for Berkshire Land Rover in the UK, so if the rebuild was done pre import does that change things?

Is it here and registered? Way fewer headaches that way. Documentation is key, so ask for what it comes with, and look through what your particular state requires when registering in your state.

Most trucks that undergo a full restoration these days are either sourced part-by-part, or more economically as an entire truck that is in far better condition with desirable upgrades over what was available 25 years ago (yes, this usually means a younger-than 25 year old truck).

PS - that looks a hell of a lot like Arjun's truck, and from what I remember he got his from Berkshire... so maybe try to reach out to him directly.

I've seen the truck in person, and had the absolute pleasure to actually crawl around inside/underneath and assist in a full fluid change/flush, as well as spend some limited time behind the wheel. You will not find a more pristine example, and since arrival it's lived it's life in a climate-controlled garage among vehicles of a much higher class (they will remain unnamed, but I assure you we've all had posters of them on our walls during our formative years...not to mention some of their modern rivals). This truck would be the dream truck if I had an unlimited bankroll, and storage. For now I'll have to live with my pieces of crap! But it's a damn nice truck, if I do say so my damn self.

Do you recall what he paid for it? Is it a solid build? Many thanks.

See my above post...I'd stake my reputation on it, yes it's solid to say the least.

I want this truck. Too bad he's probably not looking for an absolutely beautiful black D90 ST in an even trade.

From the photos it looks amazing, and more than likely a much better quality of build than which comes out of Solihul.

I've had the pleasure of seeing this truck last summer and the pics don't do it justice - it is quite a nice truck! I actually bought the original Michelins that this truck came with and now installed on my Disco. Arjun is a great guy and the truck is immaculate, too bad he's selling it.

Those LEDs do turn night into daytime! Although IIRC, the truck had smaller LED units on the bumper when I saw it. Either way, worth trading a kidney and other internal body parts for...LOL

Did it sell? Looks like it hit $61,100 before being pulled for no longer available on Sunday.

That's typical when they don't get what they want on No Reserve auctions.

This was a Reserve auction, and Reserve had not yet been hit.

There was a reserve. Hopefully he got what he was asking. Im pretty sure he had a BIN number in mind.
