1984 110 5 door removable door tops

Would someone be willing to enlighten me as to whether all 1984 110 5 doors had removable door tops? This would allow the removal of the hard top and a soft top option.
Are the doors similar to a NAS 90 ST as far as removal? I have examined lots of photos and it seems they all were built this way.

Was the intent to be convertible to a soft top? Were only some intended to be convertible?
Thanks in advance

Hi Joe,
Most 1984 110's have removeable door tops.

With the introduction of the 110 in 1983, all side doors had removeable tops and sliding windows. With the introduction of the 90, in the middle of 1984, Land Rover switched to roll down windows for both, the 90 and 110, and door tops ar not removeable anymore. So, early a 84 110 will have the old style while the later ones come the one piece doors.

For military versions and the later NAS 90, they keep on using the door tops and sliding windows, only for front doors though. And indeed NAS door tops are the same.

Land Rover never had a soft top version of the 110 5 door. So any soft top you find is an after market conversion. I have no idea what the reason was for removable door tops but it has nothing to do with a soft top conversion.

Fwiw it's not uncommon to see half door Defenders that have been retrofitted with full doors with wind up windows.

Thanks so much Johan. That explains it. I was having trouble understanding the removable widows without the intent to go soft top. Apparently, there is no clear answer.

In an early '84 110 can you get to the threaded bolts that hold the door tops in place as easily as say a NAS D90?

It followed the 2 piece doors that series trucks ran. It is my understanding that Series 2's and maybe 2a's had removable middle door tops, but they stopped doing them, and series 3 did not have them. Series trucks never had roll up doors to my understanding, closest thing I believe was the 1 piece front doors that canadian trucks got.

None of the series trucks ever had middle door removable tops. Only the 83-84 years did. The door top studs are the same as the series and NAS defenders and MOD trucks. Suggest soaking them for a good week or more and then paying attention to unscrewing them as they may be severely rusted/seized.
