1957 107SW #SouthAmerica

I need help finding a garage in Buenos Aires that can work on a 1957 Series I 107 Station Wagon. I'd like to get the brakes fixed and the engine running.

Thank you!

Matt

this isn't the 1956 that is listen on Argentine ebay... looks like engine swap to 2.25 might be easier.

I have until April 15th. We can drive across the Darien Gap while we're at it.

All of the missing engine parts in the photo were taken off for rebuilding. Water pump, starter, distributor, carburetor, radiator etc...it's all there ready to go. Original manual also included but, it's in Spanish!

Have a link to the eBay truck?

2016 Dakar video. Not many Defenders in Argentina. Tomorrow we're following the race into Bolivia.

I've struggled with exporting this truck. It's possible but very expensive without being a citizen or resident who's moving aboard or, you need to own a business in Argentina. It's very complicated and there is no guarantee.

So just an update unless...someone by chance has a friend or family member in Argentina that's moving to America in the near future? They could export the truck easily as part of their household goods.

Trucks in a safe place now but, I may need to sell it down there unless a solution presents itself in the near future.

Cheers.

We've made some progress on exporting, thanks to the guy that exports fruit from Argentina!

Also several people have asked me about selling the truck. $17,500 is what it would take for me to give it up right now.

Someone could make some good money importing 107SWs.

I got really close to buying this one a couple weeks ago but, the sellers lawyer said ownership transfer and export to me would be very difficult. So he backed out at the last minute. Story has a happy ending though. I contacted a previous owner of the truck that I found on the old Rovers North forum and told him about the situation. He had lived in Argentina for 10 years and owned the exact truck there many years ago. He was ecstatic at the idea of buying it back so he flew to Argentina, and bought it back! Because he still has residency export should be easier for him.

I hope the export options work out for you and you're able to bring this one state side.

Old owner was pretty excited when I reached out to him. He called it his "margarita". We'll get mine stateside one way or another. Eventually. I've spent countless hours working on it. Hopefully this new approach bares fruit. There is one individual who will remain nameless that's been trying to buy mine from me since day one. He's really who ought to end up with it and should of been the one to buy it in the first place...such a passionate enthusiast. If we can sort out the shipping I hope he'll buy it and perhaps do a write up about its restoration. As for me...I think once this concludes I'll go back to buying Defenders in Africa. Believe it or not there is less bureaucracy there! And perhaps there's another Camel Trophy truck hidden out there somewhere. I've enjoyed the hell out of the one I've got!
