Nah... its still looks like crap painted. Here is a 90 that we luckily got to take all that goofy junk off. This is it when as it was purchased. Nasty IMO, but everyone has their own taste.

I understand the necessity of it on the fender tops, but I fawkin hate the black on yellow. Either I paint it to match or I'm gonna have to replace the tops.

I think it being painted to match is just as if not more offensive, and I agree the black on yellow is hideous.

I'm surprised this whole topic had never come up before, especially considering how many people evidently share the hatred.

Did you find out anything?

I actually thought people liked the look. I've posted in the past that I was looking to trade my sills (with the protectors) for ones with out. Now I know why there wasn't any interest...

CVC, do you still have the yellow sills laying around?

keep it silver or black.

The only other place I could see it is on the lower rear panel by the bumper, but still I don't like it. I bought some to put on there thinking it would look nice, but thank god I never put it on there. But if I saw a Defender with 5-bar on the top of the fenders and on the lower rear by the bumper it would not be "so" bad. I really hate it when it matches the color it is on. Actually I hate all colors that match. Like green truck, green rims and green bumper or something stupid like that.

Yeah, I've definitely never been able to like the body-colored stuff - especially when its a painted step surface - how much sense does that make?

The black on yellow is a but high-contrast, but the top and everything else is already black, and it looks much better than silver. My fender protectors were obviously black when they went on, but have faded to a fairly pleasing grey. I officially regret the sill covers and rear corners.

From what I understand the black fades in the sun anyways and looks purple over time. I have plating on my wings because I kept messing them up when I would step up there to put my canoe on or when I would lay tools on them. Still it was kind of a stupid idea and doesn't really look all that great, but it does do ok for resting crap up there.

I agree with that most "color matched" trucks look nasty, but sometimes body color on the rims can look good. IMO.

I would agree those look nice. Looks like that green truck had a lot of weights on that drivers front wheel......

Yup, that would be the guys local tire shop trying to balance a SSR. We just use equal in them and they work fine, no need for external wheel weight that will get ripped off off road.

It all depends on the dye the anodizer uses. Some are a purpley base, some like mine turned a graphite color. I talked to an anodizer in San Jose about getting some work done, and he claimed that the fading hapens when some place does large runs and doesnt use the right quality controls, or goes cheap. He claimed his work would categorically not fade.

Yes, it needs some sorting out and is being passed around recently. It sold then sold again quickly, etc.
Its had a very hard life.
