110 crossbar roof rack options
I just set my 110 up with Yakima crossbar racks, using the 1A High Rise raingutter towers. I went this route, rather than the traditional full rack, to keep down on the cost and the height of the trucks overall profile. I generally carry kayaks, surfboards, bikes and the Yakima Skybox container (pictured below) - so the crossbar option seems to be perfect for me.
What I hadn't thought through in advance though was whether the roof skylight windows would present a problem. I was really really lucky to find that skylight windows are just under 36" long and the roof container can mount to crossbars at a 36" spread.
With the Yakima 1A towers, I was forced to straddle the skylight windows and not set one mid-window because the towers touch the side of the roof (pictured below). I would have liked to have positioned the entire rack setup back a bit and center it over the flat portion of the roof, but the only other 36" stretch would put the rack at the absolute rear of the truck and leave the container hanging over the end.
...I'm interested in hearing what others have down in this case, where skylight windows are in play. Do Thule towers or other brands set away from the roof?
