08 - 2012 Range Rover

Anyone care to pipe in on experience with these model years? What to look out for etc? Which one is better?

Seems like the differences are in mostly in the drivetrain, most everything else seems to be pretty much similar on the inside, except the 2011+ has the LED dash or whatever it is called.

08-early 2010 have the 4.2L engine - some supercharged
2010late to 2012 have the 5.0L engine - some supercharged

I have owned a Jag with the 5.0 supercharged engine...very quick, so I expect the same "quickness" albeit for a much heavier vehicle.

Anyway, I am looking at this range as the 2012's are very affordable now, and you can pick one up with less than 50K miles for mid $30's....could get a lot of truck.

I haunted old threads on other boards re the non-"Sport" RR sc's with the Jag 4.2L, & my conclusion was that it took them until the 3rd year of that rollout to get the kinks worked out. Too much complexity to rely on the old "don't buy the first year" rule? I dunno, but maybe.

The 5.0 in 2010 and newer is a fantastic motor. Great power and believe it or not it gets better fuel economy. I have a 10 with a 2 inch du south lift and 275/55/20 bfg ko2s and it gets 18 mpg. Not that fuel economy matters in any rover... The lcd dash display is sweet too!

Holy cuss that's an awesome RR. it's been a while since I read up on the model and had no idea there was a way to get a lift for one.

This just complicated the 4Runner replacement.

Just be prepared for it to be a Rover...for example April was going from Aqaba to Amman with a colleague of mine in his 2010 (I think) SC...when the engine started cutting out over and over again. I was on a plane to the U.S. so she reached back to John B (at 0530 in the am) for some tech help which eventually found her in dialogue with the folks in Chantilly; while she's stranded by the Dead Sea as it limped home.

I doubt many will have that issue though!

I have a couple 2008 SC's and a 2012 SC.

The 2012 is of course the better/more comfortable/more expensive truck. I've never had a major problem with any of them. I've had the 2008's since 2008.

I had/have early bmw ('04 with 103k, just sold it) and late jag engines ('11 with 30k, love it).. also never had any issues with any of them. I love the 5.0L and think the '10-12s are the best value suv out there right now.

I have a few projects in my hands and the Range Rover isn't big enough for us anymore. And yes, that IS an Arles Blue LWB

Kenny, thanks for the shout out! Chuck, your RR is looking great!
Craig, If I may pipe in for a sec. I have owed a two 5.0's. One SC and one HSE. The HSE now has 110k miles and is running great. The SC 5.0 made it to 52k miles before having injector and camshaft issues... And I have seen a hand full of others come through the shop having the same issues. So with that said I went back to the good ol 4.2 SC RR. And I love it, yes a little less power but enough for the streets of Dallas and they are a lot easier and cheaper to work on. Hope that didn't confuse the decision too much.
