I'm going!

I signed up a couple of weeks ago, doing the Day pass thing. Coming from Monterey Bay area of California. Sadly probably not in a Rover. My 109 is not ready(having motor issues) but there is a chance the 88 can go. Likely will be on my Vstrom motorcycle.
Leaving here on Monday 12th, depending on weather go thru Hawthorne, Caliente, Nevada, St George (Zion NP) and drop in from the north thru Page, AZ. If there is snow in the Sierras I'll go south thru the Mohave.
I'm guessing there will be a line up out side at noon on Th. So when/where is the Rover meet?

Hey Briggs, enjoy Mendo? Quite a crowd!

Yes,
I am looking forward to it! I've done some bicycle touring and motorcycle touring in the USA so have lots of interest in different areas.
It was good to put a face to your name also, younger than I pictured. I think it will be too warm in AZ for my beard....My friend said it was 102 over the weekend in Phoenix while it may snow at Mormon Lake this week.

Bill, Here's a link to my pics, I didn't go for too many of the individual vehicle pics but more over all.

Good eye: it is an after market one that Blair installed. Opens up to the outside hinged on the top kinda like a taco truck. It is a Titahonous(sp?) with a 2.5DT.

Flagstaff is at 7000 feet, which is 6000 feet higher than Phoenix.

Standard laps rate is 3.5 degrees per thousand feet so........
100 in phoenix = 79 in Flagstaff

so we've adjusted our schedule after expo to allow more time between Flagstaff and Denver. we are leaving the Expo site monday AM, going up to the Grand Canyon, and then staying overnight somewhere between there and Denver. Plan to be in Denver Tuesday night. now we can smell some roses.

Only interested in primitive overland camping. We are currently planning planning on camping monday night in the Valley of the Gods, but is there any place more scenic that we should be looking at that would be better? We're going to hit valley of the gods regardless. I know the Bear Ears, Monument Valley and Arches Natl Park all mentioned.

So you're leaving Flagstaff Monday, and need to be in Denver Tuesday night, and you have this on your list:

1) Grand Canyon
2) Monument Valley
3) Valley of the Gods
4) Arches

That's a VERY ambitious itinerary.

As for camping that won't take you too far off the highway route to Denver, Valley of the Gods makes sense or if you want to go a bit farther there are some campsites at Comb Wash, just south of UT 95 on the west side of Comb Ridge. There are dirt roads running parallel to Comb ridge, on both sides, that connect UT 163 to UT 95. The road on the west of Comb Ridge is probably more scenic if you're just passing through. The road on the east side offers trail access to a series of Anasazi ruins.

Bear Ears is probably a bit too far off your route.

That's Cedar Mesa and there is incredible camping and fun hiking in that area. Mark, shoot me a text or give me a call at 210-859-3107 and I will give you a few secret stash spots around there. I have a Denver-to-Arches spot, too.
