A lot of people are asking about how the Government shutdown and the closure of the naional forests will impact the URE!10 event. The trails are still open, but the shutdown will affect our camping situation.

As of right now, we are hoping this will get sorted out and we are able to proceed as planned. If we cannot camp at the Badin Lake Group Camp, then we have made arrangements with the folks at the Uwharrie Off Road Training Center to use the property across the street from the Eldorado Outpost. They have several acres. Unfortunately, that means no hot showers, but there will be porta johns available.

If you have registered via the onslrs registration site and given a proper email, then we will email any changes or updates as late as Wednesday night to Thursday morning in regards to the camping status. We are going to hold out as long as possible to the idea that we will be camping in the normal group camp spot within the national forest.

If we have to move to the private property, we will be giving out camping information and details via email blasts, the various forums, and Facebook. Of course, you can also email us directly with any other questions you may have at oldnorthstate@gmail.com

Anyone have the address of the trading post type store you pass just before getting to the camping area we used in the past? My GPS had issues with the other points I tried to map last year.

That's a good idea.
The only way to know if you really want a Defender is to ride in one.
It's basically a British farm truck, and it handles and rides just like a farm vehicle.

If we end up camping at the Uwharrie Off Road Training Center property, then we need to address how to handle campfires. This is private property and the owners have a policy as to how camp fires are dealt with. There are a few permanent camp fire rings throughout the property to use, but we ARE NOT to create any more fire rings or ground-based fires. We can, however, utilize above-ground fire pits like you see for use on decks and patios. I know this is not ideal, but we are just grateful that we have a place that can accommodate over 80 trucks and families.

Won't cost that much it get a good truck.

Keeping it running over the next decade or two might though!
