Thought this might appeal to others here. After finishing Jill's Paris-to-London ride last weekend, I left the Rover in the UK and flew home. Yesterday I flew back to pick it up, make the rounds to some suppliers, and hit up the Peterborough show this weekend.

Yesterday was torrential rain across the entire South, so I even had to do some impromptu fording. The Ford aka in front of me made it, but only just. I was ready to push him out with the ARB but in the end there was no need. Bummer.

Despite the terrible weather, Stuart and Paul at Foley Specialist Vehicles were welcoming and otherwise awesome. Paul and I went out back and dug up the 130 cab parts I need. They were just super helpful guys and didn't mind taking a few minutes for a good bull session about the state of affairs in the Rover business and crazy Americans that spend crazy money on drafty old British collie-carriers. Top guys, send them money.

For anyone wondering where NAS hard tops without roll cage holes come from, I've got your answer. The yellow truck is a LHD Defender "cabriolet" from the European market. It's basically a NAS 90 with 300tdi, tub bulkhead, and a partial roll cage. Naturally it costs about what I spent converting my NAS 90 to tdi power. It's listed on ebay if anyone wants to check it out.

Today I'm off to Guava parts to pick up a new tub. Hopefully that will go well. I'll report back either way!

I had never dealt with them before, but Guava Parts International turned out to be a first class operation. It's a big operation, real warehouse, actual dealership and service department etc. Apparently, their main business is small fleet operators around the world. As told to me, LR doesn't really go after fleet accounts until the operator has 400+ vehicles, which leaves a lot of space in the market for firms like this to operate.

My new take-off 130 tub was waiting for me palletized and wrapped, but the warehouse guys indicated that it would be no problem if I just wanted to install it right there. They let me pull into the warehouse and I spent the next two hours pulling the old tub and fitting the new. The guys helped me lift the tubs on and off, produced all the packing material I could need, and otherwise hung around watching - which I think they enjoyed during a slow day in the warehouse with the forklift broken. There is also something especially great about a Defender siting in a warehouse with a bunch of crates and boxes. Looks like the Arc of the Covenant should be in one of them.

Today I'm off to Rimmer Bros to pick up some misc stuff. It's a good thing too, because my headlight switch self-immolated yesterday. Fortunately, I had neglected to reinstall the steering column cowl and I was able to react quickly when I got a waft of smoke in my face. It was a classic rover moment driving 60mph up the M1 trying to blow out a fire on my steering column...

Rimmer Brothers in helpful fashion supplied me with a new light switch. I was cursing the Britpart piece that the PO installed until I put the new part in and the smoke started coming out of the dash. I've got some more serious circuit problem than just the switch, but I'm surprised the fuse hasn't blown. So it's no night driving until I can get this worked out.

Rimmer Bros did have some cool cutaway Rovers though...
