You have to keep in mind that most people will be wanting to do it as more of a relaxing, enjoy the scenery kinda trip and slow to rise in the mornings..... To be quite honest I have heard that a lot of the sections up till TN are mostly paved by now, from TN on it was still pretty boring, as I mentioned until like newmexico Colorado areas..I will see if I can enable my smugmug album of the tat as it is in sequential order from memory....

I think there was a team of 3 semi-pro riders and they had a support team that was going ahead of them and setting up camp and servicing bikes etc etc and they did it in 20-21 days.. I would never do it at that pace again, by the end of the trip I was just wishing it would be over...and then when I got home I didn't even clean the bike, let alone ride again for 6 months... I did ride down the coast from Oregon to San fransisco...not a smart move on a 640 adventure..... Shipped it back from San fran to Florida..

I think the trip schedule should be relaxed and "we'll get as far as we get, and maximize fun, deal with breakdowns and generally have a good time driving across the the good ole USA"

I think no matter what it will be a hoot..

This wont be a race

The only thing I am thinking of is all the little side trips that could increase time...if it is as hinted at and paved for much of it that will be disappointing.

But I figure two weeks will be good for at least 2,000mi plus. Banking on 10days at 200mi/day give or take.

He's got a truck now, just need to get it running before May right...
I think he needs a painting for motivation - he has to keep it up in the living room until he he can personally give it back at uwharrie

mine is as well... both sides home/work..

now i need to figure out a way to carry fuel and some water.

Fuel looks like it is going to be on an Exorack w/2 3Gal Roto packs + 8 Gal extended tank - from RN.

Vector Offroad

Water.. was thinking of just doing it easy and using a Front runner Water Jerry can with spout. + the fridge should take care of it - no way to shower but there are camp grounds..

Tent storage - i'll either need to build a platform to support the OZTent better (my Rack spread is only 18" inches) or throw it on Jonesy's Rack.

Just an FYI with the Frontrunner water can, the plastic has a really strong smell. I bought mine in July and it still stinks. Its not too bad now, but when I got it I could barely drink the water out of it. I soaked it in baking soda and water, then washed it out with dish soap multiple times.

Also, if you get the one with the spout built in, also buy the brass fitting to replace the plastic one. The plastic is very difficult to open and almost impossible when its cold.

Good to know.. How about leaking from the spout?
Other option is an MWC with a spout/tap

No issues with leak, it just smells and is hard to open. I haven't seen any metal water cans for sale anywhere. Do you have a source?

Give it an overnight with some vinegar and then rinse clean to get rid of the scent
