Here are the first set of coordinates to Checkpoint #1 (cut and paste into Google Earth) 12MAR12:

33į 2'10.59"N

116į 5'51.01"W

It will take you to the first checkpoint.

Once there, you will be met by a Conspirator who will have perform a safety check and ask to see the basic gear list below (first aid kit, fire extinguisher, water, etc). Just a friendly reminder that traveling in the desert is serious busniess.

Once complete, they will provide you with coordinates to camp.

When you arrive at the Rendezvous Camp, you will be given the option of participating in the SoCal Desert Challenge on Saturday morning at 0900.

**For late arrivals coming in late friday or saturday, the actual Rendezvous Camp coordinates will be posted here in this post after 1700 on 23 March 2012. I will also post the location description in the clear for those using paper maps. We will also leave a post with a chemlight and directions/coords at Checkpoint #1 friday night**

The Vision:

1. No Fees: Come as you are!
2. Laid Back: No hard schedule other than the date.
3. Mountain Man Rendezvous and Overland Meet and Greet.
4. Swap Meet: Bring things to trade or sell or barter (this is NOT a commercial event!).
5. Meet People: Network, maybe teach each other a few things and check out cool rigs.
6. Real Fireside Chat: With a real fire. Share food and beverages of your choice.
7. Desert Rendezvous Cleanup : We aim to pack out more than we pack in!

SWAP MEET THREAD: http://www.expeditionportal.com/foru...ap-Meet-Thread!

The Ground Rules:

1. Common Sense.
2. Respect for Others.
3. Self Sufficiency.
4. Tread Lightly.
5. Leave it better than the way we found it!
6. Speed limit in camp is 5 mph, strictly enforced for safety (kids, dogs). Make no dust.
7. Quiet time in camp is midnight.

- The intent is to be inclusive and promote max participation - this means family friendly, dog friendly (supervised/common sense), and we won't turn anyone away for AZ or NV plates (J/K)

- Please note that all trash collected during the Cleanup is the responsibility of the individual to remove; this is not a commercial event so dumpsters will NOT be provided. All trash collected must be packed out by the individual attendees and the area left spotless!

- Please note that there will be no potable water and no restrooms i.e. porta johns in the Desert. Bring your own!

Here's what happened at the 2011 Rendezvous Events

DISCLAIMER:
A. COME PREPARED - SELF SUFFICIENCY (VEHICLE AND SELF) AND THE CAPABILITY TO TREAD LIGHTLY WILL BE THE ONLY REQUIREMENTS TO ATTEND.
B. YOU ASSUME ALL LIABILITY FOR YOURSELF. PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK ON PUBLIC LANDS.
C. WE REPRESENT THIS COMMUNITY AND WILL ADHERE TO OUR COMMUNITY STANDARDS OF CONDUCT.
D. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE FUN OR ELSE!

************************************************** **************************************************

A few tidbits to dispel any rumors about the vaunted Desert Challenge:

1. The Desert Challenge is NOT a race. Vehicles will be staged near camp but then will not move. You can take the Challenge or just watch

2. There will be a series of stations run by fellow enthusiasts where you will be graded on performing certain tasks routinely encountered during remote travel. Knowledge and mastery of these routine tasks will greatly enhance your chances if ever alone in the backcountry.

3. Safety is paramount i.e. your vehicle will not be damaged in any way. Anyone doing anything unsafe i.e. unsafe Hi-Lift technique/use will be DQ'd.

4. Above all, the Challenge is meant to be FUN above all and is not a testosterone fest. The smart guy or gal who knows how to THINK and use what they have will win.

5. It's free, and if you win, there is a substantial Prize

The Desert Challenge is going to be a lot of FUN!

************************************************** **************************************************
