Just a few shots from the trip, wish I had more; however, it's hard to drive and shoot at the same time. Can't wait for next year.

Cooll some nice pics in there. I have a bunch from mine to upload but I need to get my GFs camera as we used that most of the day. Will post all later.

THIS is a very curious picture...http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...achmentid=2899

Perhaps Kevin has some theories on how these stones dragged themselves across the salt flat. Read also cought a photo of another self-propelling rock.

I think the rocks movement is caused by vehicles travceling accross "washboard" at a high rate of speed. This causes a harmonic vibration that is transfered through the playa thus causing the rocks move much like the old electronic football games, if you are younger than 30 you probably wont understand the electonic football refrence Anyone who is walking on the playa when the vehicles drive by cause this phenomenon to counteract the harmonic effect. That is why nobody ever sees the rocks move. Very simple really

Read, yeah we could tell it was a little washed out. Finally got to break in the pick axe, so it no longer just a show & tell item. Fantastically, everyone on that run was willing to climb washed out walls and break trail with us. We of course only were *reconnecting* between the spots where the road had been, but at a slightly higher elevation.

That's what you get for being in California. I paid $1.96/gallon(hah, the oil companies have got us celebrating when gas goes under $2) on Saturday. I hear you folks are paying close to $3/gal. If you want to do a trade, let me know.

Doug,

I'll be competing in Rim of the World Rally again this year. I hope we don't require the service of one of your sweep teams, but I will keep an eye out for your truck. I think our car will be #11, but the starting order may change in the next couple of days so I'm not sure. We're in a white Subaru Impreza STi with black and red stripes. I hope we won't see the same rain and mud that we did a few years ago.

It was great to meet you and look forward to actually running a trail together!

We'll keep an eye out! I'll be sweeping DelSur on Friday nite and Saturday afternoon. We have about 10 trucks from SCLR going up there.

I'll be watching for #11!

Looks like 30% chance of rain on Friday night. Knowing the area like you do, what do you think about the chance of getting the roads soaked? If it gets nasty we'll have to run the soft compound tires.

Great looking Impreza, Abel. I'd say keep an eye on the weather. I kind of doubt any serious rain will happen, but that could change -- it's still early in the week. There's going to be a fair amount of loose surface up there would be my guess, especially where the 'repairs' have been done -- I can't imagine that stuff will firm up much for the rally, and the first few cars will cut it up pretty badly. Just my guess...

That's what I was thinking. Fortunately, we'll be among the first few cars that pass through some of the "repairs". The bad news is that some of the stages are used twice and we'll see those cut up areas again after 70 cars have been through them. That's rally, though. Your rig is a beast. I'd be happy to navigate for you if you ever decide to rally it.
