Best view of the campgrounds I could find....

DW

Follow-up Post:

I'm leading Manly on Sunday, and we're going to run it from the top down. Those that want to, at the end of the run after coming out of Fish Canyon to Trona, can tank up at Trona and and ride down to The Pinnacles with us. (Or return due north on the Trona road blacktop back up to the resort.) After the Pinnacles, we'll split up -- due north again to the resort, or cut west with us to Randsburg and the 395/14 corridor and home. Should be a great run. If you haven't been to the Pinnacles, it's worth the extra drive, shouldn't be too long...

Doug, few questions...

Hey Doug,

How would you rate the trails you described?
So would be packup camp sunday AM, and just head out..to Manly, and then the route you described, and go home from the 395/14 w/o returning to camp?
Also, My D90 is a stocker (pretty much), and piloted by a novice (me), still sporting the factory side steps..
is this trail going to be dooable (read: easy), or would I be worried about damage/etc.?

thanks for the info.
When are you going up?
Kevin and I are thinking of taking off at Noon on friday.

Arbi,

Manly Pass: The trail from Ballerat down to the bottom of Searle Lake is pretty smooth and should be stunning. The rock field up into Manly pass is more annoying than difficult, but probably a good chance of cutting street tires. BFG ATs or MTs or equivalent would certainly be recommended. The side run up Fish Canyon is rated moderate, and it's recommended not to be wearing your side steps. I haven't run it. It is 1.1 miles up and back. Some of the vehicles on the run will not do it, and rather will roll on over the remainder of Manly Pass and out to the Trona Road.

We'll be leaving Panamint that morning at 9:30AM acccording to the schedule, so if you want to save an hour and a half of travel back and forth to the resort, you should pack first and will have the time to do so.

Yeah, if there are a bunch of us that are going to stop, we should probably let them know from the road....

We should tank up there too.

Looks like CB channel 4 is the word. There are other caravans that will be rolling using CH 4. So if we see other trucks, etc. will be good to be on the same #.

I also pulled FRS CH 9 code 34 off the SCLR board. Looks like I'll need to reprogram my radio before I go.

I had a great time as well. I cant wait till next year. I will post some pics as soon as I get some time. Nice to finaly meet some D90 regulars and SCLR members. My only complaint is not having enough time to meet and talk with so many great folks. Part of that is my fault for missing the raffle due to a splitting headache. Glad to see Read and Nigel won some great stuff. Cant wait to see Nigel's 90 with the 3" Rovertym lift Doug, lets plan a Last Chance Canyon day run in the near future. Cant say enough good things about the event. Thanks again to all who helped orginize the event.

Kevin, I think late May might be the earliest opportunity for Last Chance for me. I'm booked with trips and work obligations pretty heavily until after the Rim of the World SCCA Rally (I'm organizing sweep/safety teams for the event) on May 7 and 8.

It was great to meet you and look forward to actually running a trail together!
