Great event IMO, thanks. Agreed on the dinner, frankly (no pun intended) it sucked. Mostly because it was almost gone when we got there. Trails were great fun of course and it was nice to have a small crowd for so many reasons. I for one was glad for the opportuniy to chat with some new folks and some old ones who I haven't caught up with in a few years.
I would do it again. I guess it would be nice to have some vendors but not necessary.

Hi-lites:

Breaking my LF wheel while rescuing 3 vehicles from the east river crossing.
Friday's steaks cooked on the coleman stove. yum.
Tearing off the bumper of my RR
Getting a new bumper for cheap
Getting two other inexplicable flats
Pendy doing slapstick comedy with Quintin @ the west log bridge
Pendy's 2am suggestion for the chap who said we were making too much noise.
Somebody stealing the Bogg's clan flag. (or so I hear)

Wish I'd run more of the trails. We kinda did the same thing 2x in a row, and it took 3 hours each time. Missed a few trails I haven't run for a while. Great seeing everybody!

That Pendy he's a hoot......
I think that it was closer to 3 than 2.

They had a flag ? You got a new bumper ? Guess I was self absorbed with my new dents....

Here's a Pendy story for you.

He had no problem remembering my wife, and her association to me (i.e. that she was my wife), but couldn't remember who I was, even after I sat down next to her. He thought i looked like someone he owed money, so I promptly pulled the figure of $800 out of my a$$, and that sounded familiar to him! When I told him who I was, he then proceeded to tell me I looked like I'd gained weight.

A riot!

charles
p.s. Hope you finished your trip without incident Jim.

Good times- had a blast. Pendy's friend Don from Co. was also great fun not sure if you guys spent anytime with him. Very interesting guy- spent 15 yrs in Africa driving around in mostly Rovers but had dabbled with Toyota's and didn't like them as much. He rode with me all day Saturday except for the night run. He was with us when we crossed from the island over to the next island out in the main section of the James. We got frame hung up on a bolder right around 200ft from shore so we unspooled my winch down to a single wrap and someone on shore did the same all the while in a little less than 4 ft of water, there was a 5-6 knot current flowing through the truck when the doors were opened. He waded out and started taking pictures.
The plan had been to find a flat spot to park the truck/cooler on so we could swim up for beers.....just couldn't find the right rock.
I think the best "stuck" truck I saw was the Bogg's family's white 90 having fallen off the West river log bridge on the right side and the drivers side wheels had fallen through the bridge so it was straddling logs.

So... pictures for the rest of us?

BTW, it was nice meeting Pendy, Don, Julian and Kay last week at Doug's place - fun to see you guys scrambling to get the trucks roadworthy, and I learned a thing or two, to boot; so thanks for letting me help a bit.

Well.... lots... the word "totalled" came up once or twice.

Funny: last weekend, while you buggars were out wheeling, I was slaving away on the old boat. Brought HMTDMPT along, and another boatyard slave says (I shit you not): "How do you like that, those things are pretty badass... aren't they supposed to be, like the most reliable cars around?" And he WAS serious.

I didn't have the heart to tell him the whole story (or sell it to him!), and just said they're so easy to work on, and built heavily... if something does go wrong, anyone can fix them. I did confirm that they are about the best 4x4xfar, as he asked that, too.

The bush alignment thing was pretty neat; I bored my poor wife for a half hour telling her about it that evening. Don seemed a real class act, definitely good people.

You better make better accomadations for your goddess of a wife and two princess's. I hate to see your Rover addiction get you in divorce court. I heard straight from her mouth that she hated to be a crabby patty but the heat and boredom were wearing on her last two nerves.

Take my advice to heart. I have a certified princess at my shack that will roll her eyes when a future rover activity is mentioned. Have put her through to many hot days and boring activities ( for her ) to get any motivation for her attendance.

Get them a fancy open air tent and a couple cabana boys with leaf fans or suffer their wrath the next time.

As far as the overweight thing- even Jarod pulled though.

Divorce court ? Charles has a stay @ home wife that he just put in a new bmw. Why would any man get his wife a cabana boy ?

Pendy I would take your advice on anything Rover, but women LOL ?

Glad to know you have one that tolerates you running off for a week and showing back up with a caravan of 25 yr old 110's. Was that her vacation as well ?

Of course.

I guess a BMW is enough of a buyoff for a weekend in the woods with hillbillys.

I sideline as a cabana boy! And always travel with my banana hammock. Waving a leaf pays overtime. Don't tell your bud Matty though-that idea scares my homophobic self.

Pendy as a banana hammock cabana boy- shameless self promotion.

I think I have heard it all now......

Got Don's pictures, good stuff as you predicted.
The pictures of you stuck in that yellow series 1 with Quintin jumping up and down on the bumper as you spin the tires reminded me of a Charlie Chapman slapstick movie

Yes Quinton and I mud wrestling a series 1 80" in the woods of Virginia. Good times. We need black and whites to firm up the slapstick.
